GATEWAY OPC Client (CR 2495):

On the following test rig, which involves a GTW as OPC Client and another GTW as OPC Server as well as a
GTW as IEC 61850 Client, it has been noticed a few restrictions. Depending the device used on site (as OPC
client or server), those limitations may apply or not. Additional limitations/behavior may not seen during our
tests may also happen.

== TEST RIG ==
CONFIDENTIAL. All rights reserved SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC. Passing on and copying of this document, use and communication of its contents are not permitted without prior written authorization.

== OPERATION ==

 Do NOT use : "double usage = Yes" for DPS (various issues)

 Do NOT use : Boolean type for DPS (Jammed / Undefined : both wrongly set to "INVALID" instead to
“Jammed” or “Undefined” ; ON/OFF = Ok, though)
 DPS + Byte type = OK
 Quality code supported: Valid = 192, Bad = 0, Uncertain = 64. Set them properly in the SCE OPC Server
dedicated screen,
 Quality code CANNOT be defined on Client side (!) yet. As a result, there are many "Quality" issues that
won't be reported here.

== STARTING / BEHAVIOUR / INSTALLATION ==

 DO NOT install on 64 bits OS. “vcredistx86_2010” should also be installed on 64 bits machine but it
isn’t. As a result, 32 bits programs (SBUS.exe) won’t run. Install manually the vcredist or don’t use a 64
bits machine.

8.1. HELPS
CONFIDENTIAL. All rights reserved SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC. Passing on and copying of this document, use and communication of its contents are not permitted without prior written authorization.

Project file produced with older version of HELPS can be open but will not be complete (miss xPC script).

Structure of the model files provided with HELPS have changed so if some models were modified by user to
match its configuration, those one will not work with new HELPS for the xPC scripts.

Limitation of HELPS when in Embedded mode on redundant Gateways to 1 line at a time. In all other cases
(External mode and Embedded mode without Gateway redundancy), it can simulate more than one line at a
time.

8.2.2. Redundant GTW configuration: recommended good practices

 A dedicated SATRED Serial Physical link shall be used.

 The SATRED Ethernet TCP/IP connection shall use a dedicated 1 GB network interface when available.
 The “going to maintenance on SBUS disconnection” shall be deactivated through associated registry key option
(both redundant gateways shall stay operational even on SBUS disconnection).

- Date version : 4/2/2012

- Version : 11.17.27.0

8.2.4. Debug view notice

Under certain circumstances, with rather “heavy” loads, printing messages to DebugView is known to modify the
dynamics of the GTW. If GTW starts to reboot, switch to maintenance, or any other weird behaviors WHILE
DebugView is in use, it is recommended to filter out unwanted logging messages. We recommend using the
following filter in order to not log “noisy” useless information (in “exclude”):

heart;heard;beat;heartbit;ipnet*success;hwsetdo;checkdistate

8.2.5. Windows Registry Database entries for GTW Master Modbus protocol

Since FR25443, 2 new entries have been added in Windows registry database. Those 2 entries define the expected
polling timing for both SPS and MV. The new keys are

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\PROTOCOL\MODBUSMASTERxx\TS_POLLING_PERIOD
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\PROTOCOL\MODBUSMASTERxx\TM_POLLING_PERIOD

Where xx is the satellite number.

Note: “TM” stands for “MV” (Analogue Input) and “TS” stands for “SPS” (Digital Input).

The values are tenth of the required value (e.g. “100” means “1000 ms”) and are expressed in ms.

The default values at installation are:

- TS_POLLING_PERIOD = 30
- TM_POLLING_PERIOD = 100

i.e. respectively 300 ms and 1000 ms.

Given the above numbers, GTW will try its best to poll SPS every 300 ms and MV every 1000 ms.

It is to be noted that it is highly hardware and software configuration dependant. For information, when used on a
serial Modbus link at 19200 bits/s with 1 IED with 2500 MV + 2500 SPS, SPS WON’T be polled every 300 ms
(technically unreachable) but will be more likely to be in the average range 450 – 600 ms.

Again, the value set doesn’t mean the GTW will poll based on those times BUT will try to reach those value,
according hardware (serial? TCP?), configuration (number of data points …), etc.

It is advised to test the timing on a given test rig before sending the numbers to customers.

As of today, our testing didn’t show any malfunctions when those timing are set with a too low number for which
the GTW can’t poll fast enough.

8.2.6. Isagraf on Windows

Since Gateway Version V9.6.14, ISaGRAF is available under Windows Seven.

ISaGRAF’s resource use:

a. In redundant configuration, ISaGRAF’s resource use is limited to two.
b. Note that the use of multiple resources degrades the performance of the GTW.
c. The use of multiple resources is justified only when very different cycle-times are required or for performance
reasons.
CONFIDENTIAL. All rights reserved SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC. Passing on and copying of this document, use and communication of its contents are not permitted without prior written authorization.

d. ISaGRAF’s resources cycle-times have the following limitations:

- Default value is defined to 200 ms. This is usually not enough for IsaGRAF under Windows.
- Minimum acceptable value is 10 ms.
- Minimum acceptable value in redundant configuration is 200 ms under Windows.
- Use of free cycle is forbidden in redundant configuration and should not be used because this can leads to
CPU 100% uses.
Resource cycle should be monitored and adjusted to avoid permanent overflow depending on the required
performances. It is to be remembered that when the cycle time is too low this is equivalent to ISaGRAF used in free
cycle condition.

8.2.7. SNTP Synchronisation (CR2031)

GENERALITY:

The former synchronization mechanism (pre- GTW V9.6.16) was using ODTimeSrv from Agency package.
From now on (actually, from GTW V9.6.16, but version prior GTW V9.6.20 were partially bugged), a new
synchronization mechanism is taking place using an “engine” installed during Gateway installation.

Amongst other files, it’ll use SNTP.EXE (server) and SNTPClient.EXE (client) to synchronize SBUS whenever a
CONFIDENTIAL. All rights reserved SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC. Passing on and copying of this document, use and communication of its contents are not permitted without prior written authorization.

Gateway is set as a “time provider”. In that case, the former ODTimeSrv will be stopped by SNTP processes when
they are started – i.e. when Gateway starts.

On Gateway NOT used as “time provider” will still use ODTimeSrv.

When updating a former version to GTW V9.6.20 and higher, it is MANDATORY to rebuild the database using the
SCE 5.11.01 or higher. It is also mandatory to use C264 B9.08 or higher if GTW is to be set as a time provider.

SCADA SYNC. FRAME PERIOD:

A file named Synch_Timer.ini located in the Gateway root directory contains several parameters which could be
manually edited to match the pace at which SCADA is sending synchronization frame.

This file contains parameters used by each time providers (i.e. “SCADA” and “SBUS”) to configure time frame
delay reception.

It must be edited manually if any change is required; the Gateway software must be restarted in order for the
parameter to be taken into account.

Format (showing default values):

Scada_Time_synchro= 900000
Scada_Time_ratio=10

Time_synchro=15000
Time_ratio=300

The information related to timeouts is given in the following table:

period (in ms) within which the SCADA set as a time provider is expected to
Scada_Time_synchro
send a time synchronization frame.
Percentage applied to Scada_Time_Synchro upon which, if no time
synchronization frame has been received from SCADA since last sync. frame, the
Scada_Time_ratio Gateway will be set as “not synchronized” (will set windows database registry
“Synchro” key as well as IEC 61850 “SyncST” to “0”). That will be taken into
account only if the active time provider is the SCADA set as time provider.

from SBUS.
Percentage applied to Time_Synchro upon which, if no SNTP frame has been
received on SBUS since last frame, the Gateway will be set as “not
Time_ratio synchronized” (will set windows database registry “Synchro” as well as IEC
61850 “SyncST” to “0”). That will be taken into account only if the active time
provider is the one monitoring SBUS.

ShowWindow is a debug/information parameter. When set to “1”, it’ll force to show the SNTP Information
Window. That parameter is equal to “0” by default.

8.2.8. MODBUS Slave (CR 2498)

 GTW Modbus Slave (Two Coils managed by "BPCS SCADA" for One DPC on PACiS Side),
 'TCP Router' for connection of 4 SCADA on same IP/Port.
