19 Wonderful ways to find fulfilling and well paid work!

1. Work backwards from the money you need to live well, not your current
package – Yes, I know, you don’t want to take a pay cut. BUT think about
the goal! This is about fulfilment AND finance. If you lead with finance,
you already stifle fulfilment before you even start.

2. Forget about what everyone else thinks your next career move SHOULD
be – If your current career isn’t hitting the spot, why would a logical
progression in the same direction?

3. Very few of us grow up wanting to be an *INSERT YOUR JOB TITLE*

…you are an adult, yes. But we grow ‘up’ as long as we live. What do you
really want to be now that you ARE grown up?

4. Notice what triggers ‘job envy’– When you see someone and think *sigh*
‘I’d love to do that’. Why the hell aren’t you? Move towards and
investigate. It’s OK – you are allowed to! Incorporate some of it into what
you do now and start a direction of travel.

5. Oh, but I need to wait until… – You can pretty much insert any of your
bullshit here. The classics are: until my kids finish college/pay off the
mortgage/have at least 3 years experience on my CV… These are all self-
imposed false deadlines. You might not be here next year. Crack on!

6. Listen out for when people around you say ‘*YOUR NAME* would be so
good at that – It can be hard to see what others see in you. But see things
they DO. Email 20 friends and ask them to name your 3 top strengths. The
answers will provide strong clues to what you are meant to do.

7. Be format agnostic to start with – You absolutely don’t have to start a

business. What you would love to might exist in an employed role, or some
mixture of the two. It doesn’t matter what package fulfilment comes in!

8. There’s a clue in what you mind wanders to – That’s where your interest
is. Follow your mind there with the rest of you and get busy investigating
ways of making daydreams into daily life

9. You can’t take your title with you– There is no meaning in a title if you are
miserable doing a job. Please don’t tell me that seniority has you stuck!

19 Wonderful ways to find fulfilling and well paid work!

10. It isn’t too late – Time is up when you are in a box. Until then, you are still
good to spice up your career. Have at it!

11. Don’t let the prospect of falling over stop you trying – When you were a
year old, you didn’t let your frequent fails stop you from learning to walk!
You are NOT going to starve or die finding something better now!!

12. No half measures – Ever seen a swan taking off? It’s an effort to get
airborne. If you really want this, you WILL need to move powerfully
towards it. Browsing job sites half heartedly won’t do it.

13. People pay for certainty. When you align your skills and what you love to
outcomes that people can be certain of, money follows. Fulfilment is there
already!

14. Open your eyes to opportunities around you. A new job, new venture, new
partner, new anything could be a one conversation or decision away. If
you anticipate good things, they have more chance of materialising!

15. Take ownership. The person you are waiting for to change things is YOU!

16. Spend time with people who have done it. Whatever ‘it’ is. Engage with
them. Learn from them. Then do it your way.

17. Prepare to kiss some frogs The current idea for the next thing you do
might be THE ONE. It might not. You won’t know until you try. Pukker up!

18. You DO deserve it! You don’t have to suffer through a well-paid but
desperately boring job. There IS a way, you HAVE a choice. Millions of
people prove this every year. You can too.

19. Get some help. A coach can supercharge your progress on all of these
things. Look for one you trust who will help you grow and who can help
you to see things you can’t see. Be sure to try a few different coaches -
most offer free introductory calls.

There are many ways to start the process of finding fulfilling work– these are some of the
best. If you can incorporate even one of these, you will be on the path towards the future
you want. Good luck!
