Use of Masks
At RCL FOODS, masks are used for activities that pose a risk to individuals respiratory system. This includes staff working
directly with such product or within an area where the activity is carried out. The justification for use is supported by site
specific risk assessment.
Other uses for Masks, include for the purpose of preventation of cross contamination for staff who may be coughing or
sneezing.
We therefore, recommend that the above criteria for the use of masks continue.

In light of the outbreak of COVID-19, RCL FOODS further recommend adherance to the WHO guidelines for use of masks in
and out of the work place.
There is not enough evidence to prove that wearing a surgical mask significantly reduces a healthy person's risk of
becoming infected while wearing it. According to WHO, wearing a mask in situations where it is not recommended to do so
can create a false sense of security because it might lead to neglecting fundamental hygiene measures, such as proper
hand hygiene
They further recommend the following:
 If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with suspected COVID-19
infection.
 Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
 Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or
soap and water.
 If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.

How to use a Mask:

 Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
 Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.
 Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and
water.
 Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.
 To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard immediately in a closed bin;
clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
