MBT™ Versatile+ Appliance Bracket Placement Guide


The bracket placement guide is used to supplement the visual technique and is most helpful in
those cases where the center of the clinical crown is difficult to locate due to partial eruption,
gingival inflammation, or abnormal tooth size and shape.
The “average” row represents the distance from the incisal or occlusal edge of the tooth to the
center of the clinical crown. The rows above and below the average row provide 0.5 mm and 1.0
mm+ and- differences from the average for cases having larger or smaller teeth.

Procedure:
• On study model measure height of clinical crown of all fully erupted teeth.
• Divide figures in half and select column that most closely represents average of patient’s
dentition.
• Select a row on the bracket placement chart that contains the greatest number of recorded
figures.
• Some adjustment is needed for teeth showing occlusal or incisal wear, fracture, or long
tapered cusps.
• Place brackets by visualizing vertical long axis of clinical crowns and estimated center of
clinical crown as horizontal a reference.
• Use appropriate 3M Unitek bracket positioning gauge (REF 900-841) to confirm that bracket
height matches figures in bracket placement chart.
• Use a light cure adhesive system such as Transbond™ XT Light Cure Adhesive or APC™
Adhesive Coated Brackets for extended bracket positioning time.
