Introduction

Website:
Website is a collection of related network web resources, such as web pages,
multimedia content, which are typically identified with a common domain name, and published
on at least one web server. Notable examples are wikipedia.org, google.com, and amazon.com.
Websites can have many functions and can be used in various fashions; a website can be a
personal website, a corporate website for a company, a government website, an organization
website, etc. Websites are typically dedicated to a particular topic or purpose, ranging from
entertainment and social networking to providing news and education. All publicly accessible
websites collectively constitute the World Wide Web, while private websites, such as a
company's website for its employees, are typically part of an intranet.

History of WWW:
The World Wide Web (WWW) was created in 1990 by the British CERN physicist Tim Berners-
Lee. On 30 April 1993, CERN announced that the World Wide Web would be free to use for
anyone. Before the introduction of HTML and HTTP, other protocols such as File Transfer
Protocol and the gopher protocol were used to retrieve individual files from a server. These
protocols offer a simple directory structure which the user navigates and where they choose files
to download. Documents were most often presented as plain text files without formatting, or
were encoded in word processor formats.

Types:
Websites can be divided into two broad categories—static and interactive. Interactive sites
are part of the Web 2.0 community of sites, and allow for interactivity between the site owner
and site visitors or users. Static sites serve or capture information but do not allow engagement
with the audience or users directly. Some websites are informational or produced by enthusiasts
or for personal use or entertainment. Many websites do aim to make money, using one or more
business models, including:

Posting interesting content and selling contextual advertising either through direct sales or
through an advertising network.
E-commerce: products or services are purchased directly through the website
Advertising products or services available at a brick and mortar business

(Developing a Website)
(Developing a Website)
Website building platforms have become a great commodity recently. Companies providing
customer-facing products and service are including these tools to provide comprehensive
solutions with a one-stop shop to deliver the best customer experience possible. The acquisition
of weekly, another popular website building platform, by Square in April 2018 is the latest
example.
Building your own business WIX website is free and relatively straightforward. But if you’re
unfamiliar with the process, you might not understand how many different options are available
for you to use on the platform. Here’s a quick tutorial on how you can use WIX to build your
very own business website.

Building a WIX Website: A Step-by-Step WIX Tutorial:

Sign Up for an Account
Just like signing up for basically any other online service, getting started with WIX requires you
to sign up for an account. To do this, you just enter your email address and a password or you
can sign in with a Google or Facebook social account.

Choose a Type of WIX Website

Then you’ll need to choose the kind of website you want to start. Begin by clicking ―I Need a
Site For …‖ and then browse your options. Some of the selections most useful to small
businesses might include a business website, online store or blog. But depending on the type of
business you operate, you might also select ―Photography,‖ ―Restaurants,‖ ―Accommodation‖
(for hotels or other similar businesses) or ―Beauty & Wellness.‖

9|P ag e
Just remember, the type of site you select will impact the kinds of options and templates you get
to choose from later, so choose the option that best represents your business and the kind of
website you are trying to build.

Select a Template:

10 | P a g e
Once you’ve picked what type of website you want to create, you’ll be directed to a selection of
different templates to choose from. You can browse from the popular templates or search for
something specific. You can also search within specific categories like websites made
specifically for consultants, service providers or marketers. Or you can choose from a selection
of mostly blank themes and then build up from there.

Change Your Details:

When you’ve selected a template you like, WIX will take you to a preview of the design that you
can edit by clicking, dragging and dropping the different elements on the page. But one of the
first things you should do is update your business name, tagline and any other text elements on
the page that aren’t specific to your business. To do this, just click on the text that you want to
change and then you’ll see a text editor that lets you type in new text and change the size, font
and other elements.

Update Media
You’ll also have the ability to change some of the more visual elements of the site. If there are
any photos included on the template, you can click on them to change them to a photo that’s
more specific to your business. And you also have the ability to change the background of your
page. Just click on the background option on the sidebar, and then you can choose a color or
upload a photo or video to serve as the background of your website.

Add Different Elements

Your template is really just a starting point for your new website. You can also add other
elements to the page to really make the site look complete. On the sidebar, click the ―add‖ button
to bring up a list of potential page elements you can add to your site. You might choose to add
things like text boxes, images, slideshows, buttons, menus, videos or shapes. When you click on
one of those elements from the menu, you can see a few different options for the type of style
you want to add to your site. Then you can add and move around different elements to make
everything look exactly the way you want it.

Repeat for Each Page

And once you add whatever elements you want to your homepage, don’t forget to do the same
for the other pages on your site. You don’t have to add the exact same elements. You can
customize each page to look exactly the way you want using the same method. Just click on the
page you want to edit in the navigation bar and then add whatever elements you want on that
page. Save your work and move on to edit the next page.

11 | P a g e
Add a Blog

You can also choose which pages you want included on your website. One page that you might
want to consider adding, if you didn’t choose it as your main web page, is a blog. You can add a
blog to your website by adding that page element using the tools on your sidebar. Then you can
manage your posts and add new content from the sidebar as well.

Include Your Products

Also included on the sidebar is a store manager. If you have an ecommerce site or want to
include any products for sale on your site, you can use this section to add the products you have
to offer, along with supplementary elements like photos and prices. You can also edit things like
payments, shipping and store settings from this section.

12 | P a g e
Publish Your Site
When you’re happy with every part of your website, it’s time to publish. You can preview your
site by clicking the button in the top right corner, just to make sure everything looks and works
like it’s supposed to. Then just click ―publish‖ in the top right corner and your site will go live.
You can see your domain in the popup that appears. Or you can choose to connect your WIX site
to your own branded domain. When you’re done, the result should be a website that effectively
represents your business and that you’ll be proud to promote through social media and other
channels.

***
These are the basics of creating a free website for your business using the WIX platform. Of
course, the platform includes other options you may wish to consider including a premium
subscription and the highly touted ―app market‖ that allows you to add special features ranging
from newsletter signup forms to live chat and more.

SEO:
When it comes to search engine optimization for a new website, some businesses can be
intimidated due to the amount of information out there. And often, if they don’t have the help of
an experienced in-house SEO or consultant, they will do nothing.

1. On-Site SEO Basics

Some of the most important elements for search engine optimization happen on your own
website. You may hear a lot about link building (which we will get to in just a moment), but link
building without good on-site search optimization isn’t going to be as effective. Here are the bare
minimum on-site optimization elements you should put on each of your website’s main pages,
including and especially the homepage.

The Golden Rule of On-Site Optimization

Before we get started, one thing you want to keep in mind when using any of the following SEO
elements is not to overdo it. You might be tempted to shove a lot of keywords onto your pages,
but that is not the goal. In fact, Google has unleashed an over-optimization penalty that targets
websites that have too many keywords stuffed onto one page. So when it comes to keyword
optimization, keep it simple – think of up to five keywords or keyword phrases for each page on
your website and optimize for those.

13 | P a g e
If you’re not sure what keywords to use, try entering some preliminary ideas on Google’s
AdWords Keyword Tool to get suggestions. Or, if you really want to get into the keyword
research process, check out the Guide to Keyword Research – Part I and Part II.

Additional On-Site SEO Elements

While the title tag and the Meta description are the most important SEO elements, they are not
the only ones. Be sure to incorporate the following into your website’s page content for further
search optimization.

Internal Links – Link building isn’t just reserved for external sites linking to your website. You
can help search engines learn more about your website by internally linking to other pages on
your website within your content. As an example, this blog post utilizes internal links when
linking to other posts on the blog.
Header Tags – This blog post utilizes three different levels of HTML header tags that help break
the content into sections as well as let search engines know more about what each section of
content is about. The <H1></H1> tags surround the post title – there should only be one set of
<H1></H1> tags per page. The <H2></H2> and <H3></H3> tags surround subheadings on the
page – there can be multiple instances of both. Using header tags helps both readers and search
engines break up your content into digestible sections.
Image Name & ALT Tags – If you use images on your website, you should think of good
keywords for both the image name and the alt tag. On the first image within the post, we use
<imgsrc=‖on-site-search-optimization-seo-title-tag.png‖ alt=‖On-Site Search Optimization SEO
Title Tag‖ /> as the goal is to optimize it for the keywords on-site search optimization. This helps
search engines find good images for their image search based on the keywords specified.
Bolded Text – You don’t want to get too crazy with this one, but occasionally bolding a selection
of text to get a reader’s attention can also help search engines distinguish other important
information and keywords in the page’s content.

14 | P a g e
2. Why You Need Content
If you keep up with the latest in online marketing news, then you have likely read about content
development and content marketing. Content is great for both your website visitors and search
engines. The more content you have, the more likely your visitors will stick around on your
website. And the more content you have, the more likely search engines will be to put more of
your website’s pages in the search index.

The key to pleasing both search engines and visitors is to have quality content on our website.
Quality content can include a variety of things including, but not limited to, the following.

Blog Posts
Industry Articles
Tutorials & How To Guides
Infographics
Videos
Podcasts
Creating quality content for your website can be a huge investment, but it is worth it. Search
engines will love it, and visitors will love it so much that they will share it on social media,
leading to even more visitors. You can start out by simply creating blog posts on your website,
and as your audience grows, you can expand your content inventory to additional types of media.

3. Off-Site Optimization (aka Link Building)

Link building is probably one of the most talked about (and debated about) SEO tasks. The basic
goal of link building is to get other websites to link to yours. If you think about ranking at the top
of search results as a popularity contest, then links are like votes saying your website deserves to
be ranked highly. Getting links with keyword anchor text will help you rank specifically for the
keywords that are linked to. For example, Adobe Reader ranks number one for the keywords
click here because so many websites linked to it using the anchor

15 | P a g e
Organic Links – These are links you don’t have to ask for, and they are the best kind. Especially
if you can get them on sites with high authority such as major news outlets and other well-
recognized name websites.
White hat – This basically stands for good, quality link building (the kind you should strive for).
Black hat – This stands for spam, low-quality link building (the kind you should avoid).
Most websites will have a hard time generating enough organic links to raise their rankings in
search engines. This is why link building is such a popular services. But you can get started on
building quality links by doing some of the following activities.

Google Analytics:
Introduction
You may have created a great website but, if you have no idea who your website visitors are,
where they are coming from, which pages they are visiting, how long they are staying on your
site and why and when they are leaving your site, you could be wasting a lot of money and effort
on targeting the wrong type of audience. The same thing applies if you make a blog, you will
need to know which posts are going to be your most popular ones and how many blog visitors
you will convert. You need to know the answers to these and many other important questions in
order to be able to optimize your website or blog and actually make it effective.
This is exactly where Google Analytics can be of immense help, as it can give you a clear insight

When you access Google Analytics as a complete beginner, everything may seem overwhelming
at first, but this guide will walk you through it and, by the end of it, you will certainly get the
hang of how to use this extremely useful tool to maximize your site’s performance.

How to Set up Your Google Analytics Account

Before you get started with Google Analytics, you need to create a Google account. Only with a
Google account can you actually have access to Google Analytics, so you can either create a new
one or use the one you already have, but make sure that only you have access to it.

Once you have created your Google account, you can go to Google Analytics to set up your new
account.

Step 1: Sign up for Google Analytics

Here you need to enter your new account information for your website in the appropriate boxes.

17 | P a g e
Google Analytics is installed on at least 29 million websites

After you enter the necessary information, you will need to configure your data sharing settings,
the options for which will be right below.

18 | P a g e
Step 2: Add tracking code to any website
Over 55 % of all websites in the world run
Google Analytics
Once you agree to the terms and conditions, you will arrive at the next page where you will need
to click on the Admin tag in order to get to your tracking code. On the Admin tab, you need to go
to the ACCOUNT column and choose your account from the drop-down menu. After that, go to
the PROPERTY column, choose a property from the drop-down menu and go to Tracking Info >
Tracking Code.

19 | P a g e
Step 3: Add tracking code to a website:
Google Analytics code can be installed to your WordPress site by following one of the next two
methods.

Method 1: Adding the Google Analytics Code Manually

Following the next steps requires basic knowledge of WordPress and how it uses templates in
order to manage content.

20 | P a g e
Step 1

Once you have copied the tracking code supplied by Google Analytics, you will need to log into
your website, through wp-admin, in order to access the Dashboard.

Mouse over the Appearance tab in the left menu bar and select Editor, just like in picture below.

Step 2

Once you have opened the Edit Themes page, you will have to take a look at the Templates
section of the page which is located on the right side of the screen. You are looking for a file
named ―header.php‖. In order to speed things up, you can press ―CTRL + F‖ and search for this
file name. Check the picture below. When you find it, click on it.

Step 3

WordPress also powers more than 27.5% of the world’s websites

After you click on ―header.php‖, the Theme Editor will open it and allow you to edit it. You
need to look for the html tag </head>. In order to quickly find it press ―CTRL + F‖ and search
for ―</head>‖, just like in the picture below.

21 | P a g e
Step 4
After you have pasted the code, click on the ―Update File‖ button, located just below the file
editing area.

Step 5
In order to check that you have done things right, you have to go back to the Tab where you have
Google Analytics opened. Give it a couple of minutes and then refresh it to see if your Google
Analytic account is receiving data. If there is no data, you can force the test by clicking on the
―Send test traffic‖ button.
Step 4: Learn about your audience
When you arrive at this step, you will be able to track the data you want, but it will take a few
hours for your account to be up and running (it can take up to 24 hours). In the meantime, there
are several more bits and pieces you need to tackle and, of course, you need to learn how to
actually use Google Analytics in order to be able to understand the information it provides you
with, so read on to delve deeper into the matter.

It was a lengthy procedure to develop a website but by completing this project we all came to
know how to develop a website and how to increase the visibility of our website. We learnt many
things related to digital marketing and the use of digital marketing. This project helped us to
implement our theoretical knowledge into a practical business.
