JOHN ALCON D.

JERAO BSECE-5
ETHICS
LESSON 1 (MODIFIED TRUE OR FALSE)

T 1. Moral obligation is unconditional.

Because this is what Kant tells about morality requires an
unconditional statement of one’s duty.

T 2. Nothing is good except a good will.

Because Kant says that a good will is good without qualification,
this means that a good will is always good, and does not require
anything else to be good.

F 3. Every good emanates from moral ought.

Because not all things that you do is right or good even though you
follow the rules and your motive of your act is not good.

T 4. Moral good is based on the motive of the act.

Because you know his/her actions can be morally bad even if their
motives are good/

T 5. An autonomous will is self – legislating.

Because according to Kant moral obligation requires autonomous, but
non-positive, self-legislation.

T 6. The moral law is rational.

Because there is always a valid reason on a human of his/her actions.

T 7. Human action must conform to reason.

Because humans are not perfectly rational they partly act by instinct.

T 8. Moral duty is an absolute principle.

Because the dictates of reason allow for no exceptions, moral duty is
absolute but to use a person solely as a means to achieving our own
goals is morally wrong.

T 9. A human being is not a means to an end

Because human being should treated as the center and value ourselves
not for others well-being.

F 10. The dignity of the person is rooted in his achievements.

Because for me not only for his/her achievements but his/her good will
and a good motive is also rooted as human beings.
LESSON 2
Activity: Read more about the philosophy of Kant and answer the
following questions.

1. What is the meaning of the autonomy of the will?

Is the capacity to deliberate and to give oneself the moral law, rather
than merely heeding the injunctions of others.
Is an individual’s capacity for self – determination or self – governance.

2. Do you agree with Kant that nothing is good except a good

will?

Yes, it is because Kant tells us that Good will alone doesn’t give us an
ethical theory, because good will is good without qualification, this
means that good will is always good and doesn’t require anything else to
be good and its clearly for me to understand the passage of Kant talks
about that nothing is good except a good will.

3. What is the basis of the dignity of person in Kantian Ethics?

The basis of the dignity of person in Kantian Ethics is Respect because it

has a great importance in everyday life. As children we are taught to
respect our parents, teachers, and elders, school rules, family and
cultural traditions, other people’s feeling and rights, our country’s flag
and leaders, the truth and people’s differing opinions.
We may also learn that how our lives go depends every bit as much on
whether we respect ourselves. The value of self – respect may be
something we can take for granted, or we may discover how very
important it is when our self-respect is threatened, or we lose it and have
to work to regain it, or we have to struggle to develop or maintain it in a
hostile environment.
LESSON 3 (ACTIVITY: APPLICATION)

Support or criticize PRRD’s expanded community quarantine or

lockdown policy to address the threats of Covid19 using the lens
of Kantian Ethics. Do you think what PRRD did is bad or good?
Why do you say so?

For me, we should support President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s expanded

community quarantine or lockdown policy to address the threats of
covid19 using the lens of Kantian Ethics in order for us to prevent the
spreading of virus which obviously cannot be seen by a naked eye.
The so called “covid19” virus might affect hundreds or even thousands
of people that can take their life easily if they don’t follow the
restrictions of the government.
PRRD’s preventive measure for me is good because I think it is the best
way to avert the spreading of virus and the virus will stop on spreading
when they don’t find their susceptible host by entering the portal of
entry that causes the virus to spread throughout our body especially the
lymph nodes because the role of the virus is to weaken our immune
system.
Enemy is not visible and it is the hardest enemy that we can have so we
Filipinos cooperate and be united for the best of the country.
