SECTION 4. FIRST-AID MEASURES

First-aid Measures
Inhalation
Immediately go to a well-ventilated area and rest. If respiratory irritation, dizziness, nausea or unconsciousness
occurs, seek immediate medical attention. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If not breathing, give artificial
resuscitation.
Skin Contact
If the chemical got onto the clothed portion of the body, remove the contaminated clothes and shower. If the
chemical touches exposed skin, gently and thoroughly wash contaminated skin with running water and
non-abrasive soap. Launder contaminated clothing before re-use. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
Eye Contact
Do not allow victim to rub eyes. Immediately flush the contaminated eye(s) with lukewarm, gently flowing water for
at least 15 minutes, while holding the eyelid(s) open. If eye irritation develops or persists, seek medical attention.
Ingestion
Remove material from mouth and rinse with water. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Get prompt medical attention. If
victim is conscious and alert, give water to dilute. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious or convulsing
victim.
Immediate Medical Attention and Special Treatment
Special Instructions
Treat symptomatically and supportively (decontamination, vital functions).

SECTION 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Extinguishing Media
Suitable Extinguishing Media
Deluge with water.
Unsuitable Extinguishing Media
DO NOT use carbon dioxide or other gas-filled fire extinguishers as they will have no effect on decomposing
persulfates. Dry chemicals.
Specific Hazards Arising from the Product
Product will burn with ignition.
Decomposes under fire conditons to release oxygen that intensifies the fire.
Special Protective Equipment and Precautions for Fire-fighters
Firefighters should wear a full-body encapsulating chemical protective suit with positive-pressure self-contained
breathing apparatus (SCBA).

SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal Precautions, Protective Equipment, and Emergency Procedures
Use the personal protective equipment recommended in Section 8 of this safety data sheet.
Product Identifier: BREAKER ENCAP KP-XHT
Date of Preparation: April 22, 2016 Page 02 of 06
Use the personal protective equipment recommended in Section 8 of this safety data sheet.
Environmental Precautions
It is good practice to prevent spilled material and/or runoff from entering waterways, drains and sewers.
Methods and Materials for Containment and Cleaning Up
Ventilate area of leak or spill. Avoid generating dust. Clean-up personnel require goggles and MSHA/NIOSH respiratory
protection for dust and organic vapours. Isolate and contain spill. Pick-up spill in a manner which does not create dust
and place in a container suitable for reclamation or disposal.

SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precautions for Safe Handling
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. DO NOT breathe dust. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory
equipment. Wash thoroughly after handling.
Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. It is good practice to: avoid breathing product;
avoid skin and eye contact and wash hands after handling.
Conditions for Safe Storage
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Keep away from sources of ignition, combustible materials and extreme heat.
Avoid dust accumulation. Store out of direct sunlight. Store away from moisture, reducing agents, acids, alkalis and
organic materials.

SECTION 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

(ammonium persulfate)

Total quartz = 30 mg/m³ divided by the value of "%SiO2 + 2"
NIOSH. TWA = Time-Weighted Average. 0.05 mg/m³.
Appropriate Engineering Controls
Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to control airborne levels below
recommended exposure limits.
Individual Protection Measures
Eye/Face Protection
Wear chemical safety goggles and face shield when contact is possible.
Skin Protection
Skin contact should be minimized through use of suitable long-sleeved clothing (i.e. shirt and pants, coveralls).
Chemically resistant gloves should be used.
Respiratory Protection
If ventilation is inadequate or user generates dust, use a certified MSHA/NIOSH-approved respirator for dust and
organic vapours.

SECTION 11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Prolonged exposure to ammonium persulfate may cause dermatitis and asthma in sensitive persons. Prolonged
exposure to crystalline silica (quartz) may cause silicosis and cancer.
Likely Routes of Exposure
Skin contact; eye contact; inhalation; ingestion.
Acute Toxicity
(ammonium persulfate)
LD50 Oral Rat: 689 mg/kg
LD50 Inhalation Rat: > 2.95 mg/L
LD50 Dermal Rat: > 2,000 mg/kg
Skin Corrosion/Irritation
Causes skin irritation. May cause skin sensitization and allergic reaction upon repeated exposure which becomes
evident upon re-exposure.
Serious Eye Damage/Irritation
Causes eye irritation.
STOT (Specific Target Organ Toxicity) - Single Exposure
Inhalation
Causes respiratory tract irritation. Inhalation may be fatal as a result of spasm, inflammation, edema of the
respiratory tract.
Ingestion
Causes gastro-intestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May be harmful if swallowed.
STOT (Specific Target Organ Toxicity) - Repeated Exposure
Repeated or prolonged exposure may cause allergic reaction to sensitive individuals. This product has the potential for
generation of respirable dust during handling and use. Dust may contain respirable crystalline silica. Overexposure to
dust may result in pneumocononiosis, a respiratory disease causes by inhalation of mineral dust, which can lead to
fibrotic changes to the lung tissue, or silicosis, a respiratory disease by inhalation of silica dust, which can lead to
inflammation and fibrosis of the lung tissue.
Silicosis: Excessive inhalation of respirable crystalline silica dust may cause a progressive, disabling, and sometimes
fatal lung disease called silicosis. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, non-specific chest illness,
and reduced pulmonary function. This disease is exacerbated by smoking. Individuals with silicosis are predisposed to
develop tuberculosis.
Cancer Status: The International Agency for Research on Cancer has determined that crystalline silica inhaled in the
form of quartz or crystobalite from occupational sources is carcinogenic to humans (Group 1 - carcingenic to humans).
