SPECIFICATION - SOUND CONTROL OF MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT – NON-API

1.0 SCOPE

This specification defines the permissible noise levels for equipment; defines noise measurement
procedures including required noise measurement locations; and defines information that must be
supplied with the proposal.

This specification stipulates the requirements for Supplier's equipment that will provide a low
noise environment. This specification identifies equipment noise level limitations, noise testing
requirements, and noise data documentation requirements. These limitations and requirements
apply to equipment that generates noise in the speech and hearing range and to stationary and
mobile equipment and machinery that may produce continuous, intermittent, or impulsive noise.

4.6 Sound Attenuation: The reduction of sound by various means.

5.0 OVERALL REQUIREMENTS

5.1 Purchaser's objective is to procure equipment that will not exceed a noise level of 85 dBA
at a distance of 1 m. Additionally, Purchaser shall evaluate other noise limits proposed
by Supplier provided the requirements of this specification are satisfied.

5.2 Noise from equipment trains includes the total combined noise from driver, driven

supplied by Supplier need not be limited to 85 dBA provided that the complete equipment
train does not exceed 85 dBA when measured in accordance with this specification. The
output of the various noise sources shall be added using the logarithmic sum method.
Noise limits apply at all operating points within the equipment's' normal performance
range. Suppliers shall include an alternative quotation to attain the 85 dBA noise levels.

5.3 Octave-band sound pressure limits in dB for the 85 dBA sound pressure levels (at 1 m
distance) established in this specification shall generally be as follows:

Sound Pressure Limits

the 85 dBA requirement.

5.5 Impulsive or impact noise shall not exceed 140 dB peak sound pressure level at the
measurement locations listed in this specification.

5.6 Emergency services, including, but not limited to safety relief valves, alarms, and fire
water pumps, are excluded from meeting any noise limit defined in this specification
when operating outdoors.

6.0 DOCUMENTATION

6.1 Supplier shall state noise guarantees for each component of each equipment train or for
each equipment train as a whole on the Equipment Noise Level Data Sheet.

A. Supplier shall complete the Equipment Noise Level Data Sheet for the following
conditions as applicable:

noise limit as agreed upon under the conditions of this specification shall be
supplied. A description of the acoustic treatment required and the additional
cost, if any, shall be included with this data. Acoustic treatment shall not limit
equipment operation or accessibility nor shall they create safety or fire
hazards.

B. Octave-band data and supporting calculations or measurement data shall be

included with the proposal as required by the Equipment Noise Level Data Sheet.

C. If Supplier furnishes sound levels measured in accordance with an accepted

industry standard or practice that does not include important sound sources
normally associated with the equipment (for example, intake and exhaust noise
of engines, and separately supplied auxiliary equipment), then omitted sound
sources shall be determined and reported as separate items.
