FOREWORD
This specification is intended to supplement Process Industry Practice PIP resp003V-2010 Specification
for High Power Vertical Centrifugal Pumps for Water Service, which is part of this specification.
Numbering of the following sections and paragraphs corresponds to section and paragraph numbering of
Process Industry Practice PIP RESP003V-2010.
Paragraphs shall be highlighted as shown below to indicate the type of change from the PIP Practice.
(Add) Supplemental requirements/clarifications to an existing paragraph.
(Decision) A decision has been made as required. If no decision has been made by this
specification, refer to the corresponding data sheet.
(Deleted) Text deleted.
(Mod) Clarification or rewording has been made to the corresponding paragraph, but not a
substitution invalidating the paragraph.
(New) A new paragraph is added.
(Sub) Paragraph supersedes PIP RESP003V-2010 in its entirety.
Note: Requirements of PIP RESP003V-2010 that are not revised remain applicable.
The data sheet is an integral part of the specification.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.2 Scope
1.2.2.e (Add) Maximum Power
Maximum power shall be 750 kW (1000 HP)
1.3 (Add) Conflicting Requirements
This specification supplements the datasheets on which the operating conditions and
special requirements are listed in detail for each individual pump. Whenever the data
included on the individual datasheets conflict with this specification, Supplier shall resolve
conflicts with Purchaser.
1.4 (Add) Supplier Responsibility
Compliance with this specification does not relieve Supplier of the responsibility of
furnishing pumps and accessories of proper design, mechanically suited to meet
operating guarantees at the specified service conditions. Nor does it relieve Pump
Supplier of the responsibility of furnishing equipment assembled and prepared for
shipment in a professional manner.
1.5 (Add) Supplier Qualification
Suppliers qualified by experience manufacturing the proposed units shall supply pumps.
To qualify, the Supplier shall have manufactured at least two (2) pumps of comparable
size, model, power rating, and speed in similar service as indicated in the individual
specification and data sheets. These pumps shall have completed at least 8000 hours of
continuous operation satisfactorily.
1.6 (Add) Alternate Design
1.6.1 Supplier’s quotation shall conform to this Specification and any addenda. At the
Supplier’s option, an alternate quotation may be offered if the following two
conditions are met:
- If there is a significant process or delivery advantage, a superior, more reliable

pump design may be offered. The Supplier shall provide the technical
justification.

- Alternate quotation shall indicate deviations from the requirements in this

Specification. Complete details of deviations shall be submitted to Purchaser for
review.
1.6.2 If Supplier’s quotation indicates no deviations from the requirements in this

Specification, it shall be assumed by the Purchaser that the pump quoted
complies fully with this Specification. Deviation to the dimensional standards
shall be noted in the Supplier’s proposal and must be noted on supporting
dimension drawings.
1.7 (Add) Units and Governing Documents
The pumps supplied to this standard shall have ISO dimensions and comply with
comparable ISO standards.
1.8 (Add) Unit Responsibility
The supplier shall assume unit responsibility for all equipment and all auxiliary systems
included in the scope of the order.
4.0 REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Basic Design
4.1.5 (Mod) Impellers
(Mod) Solid Hubs on impellers are required. An impeller made from a cored hub
requires consent of Buyer.
4.1.8 Shaft-Sealing Systems
4.1.8.5 (Add) Comment (Sub) Design and Materials of Seal Components
Comment (Sub) Services will include fresh water, condensate, and

cooling tower water; not exceed 80 °C (176 °F). The seal application
expected is a BSTFN seal code, API 682 type is 682 NC (non-
conforming to API 682) with an API Seal Flush plan 11 or 31 with a
secondary API Seal Flush plan 61. The pump will have a fixed throat
bushing and the seal plate (gland) shall have a standard throttle bushing.
4.2 Accessories
4.2.1 Drivers

Motors shall be furnished in accordance with Marafiq Motor

Specification(s).
4.2.3 Mounting Plate
4.2.3.3 (Mod) Mounting Plate
Pumps shall have a separate soleplate for bolting and grouting to the
foundation. Soleplate shall be machined on its top surface and shall
have at least four vertical leveling screws.
4.4 (Add) Inspection And Testing
4.4.1 Requirements for inspection, testing, witnessing and observing shall be

as specified on the pump data sheets.
4.4.2 The Purchaser requires ten working days notice prior to scheduled test
or inspection.
4.4.3 For Vertical Pumps over 4.5 meters (14.7 ft) in length, a fit up check is
required.
4.5 (Add) Supplier’s Documentation
4.4.1 Drawings and data as specified on the applicable Supplier Data

Submittal Form included in the inquiry or purchase order are required as
a minimum.
