1. BACKGROUND
Transport that Iman Cargo & Freight Services Sdn Bhd has provide is lorry transportation
for the company. There are currently two branches running its operation and located at No. 54
& 54A, Jalan Bintang, Taman Flora, 83000 Batu Pahat, Johor and the other one is in Kelantan
branch which is at PT 549, Tingkat 1, Jalan Hospital, 15200 Kota Bahru, Kelantan. Iman Cargo
& Freight Services Sdn Bhd can be contacted by their offices numbers, +607-4336269 and
+607-4337269 or by fax +607-4335669. While number telephone at Kelantan branch is +609-
747 5669 / 747 6269 or by Fax +609 – 747 4669.

The office hours are only in Monday until Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other than that
Iman Cargo & Freight Services Sdn Bhd also have email, if the customer need more info or
want to know what services that this company provided and want to use the services from Iman

The background of Iman Cargo & Freight Services Sdn Bhd was incorporated on 4th
March 1994 and commences business as a transporter and general trading. In 1998 the company
had broaden the activity into construction work. It was run by a team who possessing vast
experience of transportation, construction as well as management. The best thing of this Iman
Cargo & Freight Services Sdn. Bhd. are 100% Bumiputera and become the first company that
running their business as Bumiputera in Malaysia.

The experience for vessel operation (for rice) at Pelabuhan Pasir Gudang was started way
back in 1990, whereby its operation was carried out by Hexza Pakat Sdn Bhd, which was owned
by Encik Fikri Bin Abu Bakar. The successful of ICF in getting the contract from Johor Port
Logistics Sdn Bhd (JPL) was mainly due to the vast experience of Encik Fikri Abu Bakar and
his teams. Furthermore, with the good track records, JPL once again in 2006 awarded ICF with
another contract for the vessel operation in Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) (Refer Appendix
A). Currently ICF are doing transporting of rice from warehouses to various subsidiaries of
Bernas i.e. Syarikat Faiza Sdn Bhd, Serba Wangi Sdn Bhd, Melia Best Sdn Bhd, Jasmine Food
Corporation Sdn Bhd, YHL Holding Sdn Bhd, OEL etc. Beside rice transportation business as
our core business, ICF also involved in toxic waste transportation, based at Kualiti Alam
Seremban since April 2006. All of ICF fleets are dedicate to carrying toxic waste from Northern
and Eastern Peninsula Malaysia. ICF believe with the vast experience as mentioned above, ICF
can guarantee good delivery and handling of goods for their clients.

Since its inception had embarked on diversification policy to meet the ever changing and
competitive situation of the both industries. The company had managed to extent and broadens
her activity all over the country since 1994. Through their experience and expertise Iman Cargo
& Freight Services Sdn. Bhd. hope the company can contribute towards the development of the
country.

There are currently the three directors managing Iman Cargo & Freight Services Sdn. Bhd
which is the first is Encik Fikri Bin Abu Bakar as Managing Director and over 10 years of
experience as a businessman especially in transportation and construction works. Also involve
in rice wholesaler business where his family own a rice mill in Batu Pahat since 1991 (Syarikat
Faiza Sdn. Bhd.) and the name of “Iman” is taken from the name wife of Encik Fikri.

Second directors is Sheikh Ismail Bin Sh Ahmad as Executive Director and gained
experience in Finance and Administration while serving Maybank Finance Berhad since 1988 to
1996. Later had involved in construction works, until now. And the lastly is, Abd Halim bin
Rosdi as a Senior Executive and has 5 years of experience in Credit Control Hire Purchase and
10 years in Telecommunication Customer Service.

The vision of Iman Cargo & Freight Services Sdn Bhd is to become a successful
Bumiputera company in the field of transportation and construction. While the mission is to
offer affordable transport rental route cover entire Peninsula especially Northern and East Coast
to provide reliable and experienced driver.

2. ‘TRANSPORT PROVIDER’ LOCATION


Iman Cargo & Freight Services Sdn. Bhd. is a company that offers a comprehensive range
of transportation as well as construction works. They have two location where they kept their
lorries in Batu Pahat area which are the first one is located at Batu 7, Jalan Tongkang Pecah and
another one located at Jalan Wawasan 19, Sri Gading.

Furthermore, Iman Cargo itself is located in Batu Pahat, Johor. So, it is a strategic place
because they usually got delivery ordered often in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. Tongkang
Pecah near Kuala Lumpur’s toll while Batu Pahat is near with Johor Bahru. The delivery route is
flexible since they covered entire Peninsula route especially Northern and East Coast.

Iman Cargo does not have specific delivery place. The delivery only occurs when getting a
call from a customer. Currently they are doing transporting of rice from warehouses to various
subsidiaries of Bernas such as. Syarikat Faiza Sdn Bhd, Serba Wangi Sdn Bhd, Melia Best Sdn
Bhd, Jasmine Food Corporation Sdn Bhd, YHL Holding Sdn Bhd, OEL and others.

Signage means the design or use of signs and symbols to communicate a message to an audience.

Typically, signage tends to serve a common purpose which is to provide information or


give directions for a place. Quite simply, signage is often designed to help individuals recognize
or identify a place that you want to go. For instance, signs help us to identify which one praying
room. In other words, sign help everyone for easily to find out the place that they want to go.

Sign available at the company is not enough. This is because Iman Cargo & Freight
Services Sdn Bhd only have four signage in their company. They should various signage at their
office to easily customer or the new staff can identify the place easily. For example, the signage
for fire extinguisher also need for everyone. So, if unexpected situation happens at the company
such as blaze, the staff and the customer at the office can identify the information through
signage. So, we can conclude that signage is most importance have at the office of the company.

4. SERVICE PROVIDE BY “TRANSPORT PROVIDER”


ICF provided road transport which is lorries transport. This lorries transport have
different characteristics of modes of the transport. This transport is particularly suited for
transporting goods which is are cheap, heavy and bulky. Other than that the goods of perishable
nature and delicate goods such as vegetables, fruits, eggs, milk, and rice. It’s over short distances
and also send to the forests, hilly and rural areas where the other modern modes of transport are
not available.

This transport have door to door services compare to the other transport because it’s from
warehouse to the other warehouse. It also can reduce the cost of transporting or delivering goods
as well as loading and unloading expenses. Next, flexible service which its routes and timings
can be adjusted and changed to individual requirements without much inconvenience and it’s
suitable for short and medium distance. For example in this ICF they delivered goods from
Kelantan to Selangor, Melaka to Peninsula Malaysia and Northern and Eastern Region to Negeri
Sembilan.

There are several traffic characteristic in this lorry transport which is the first is the types
of goods. For instance, goods delivered can be solid or liquid. This lorry transport in ICF is
carried or delivered goods such as rice, steel bar, soft drinks (F&N Coca Cola), sugar, pallets,
plastic resin and tobacco leaf. And for the services is the supply of conventional transportation.
Next, it’s also have variety of shapes. The goods can come in all sorts of different size, density,
and weights. Lastly, handling equipment is special handling equipment and vehicles are required
due to the types and shapes of certain goods.

For the service characteristic in this lorries transport is punctuality that means the goods
will arrived to their place on time same as in schedule. Next, affordability. The cost or charges of
the transport services customer willing to pay. For example in this ICF services that charges of
the goods is based on the weight of the goods because if the goods is larger but the weight is
superficial it can cause the customer are not satisfied with their price. Furthermore, it’s safety.
The goods are safe arrival to their destination without any undamaged or unbroken. Moreover,
the speed of the lorries transport is less time and ship the goods quickly and the capacity are
limited.

All lorries transport at ICF have the “A” marker on the lorry vehicle body is a sign of
identity for this permit and this mark is mandatory on the body of the vehicle. Vehicle ratios
should be 1: 1 for transport with two types of vehicles namely rigid vehicles and trailers. It
shows that the lorry carries goods for rent or wages for trading or business purposes . For current
policy of class “A” lorry permit, it is open to all individuals, Partnership Company, Sdn Bhd and
cooperatives. For class “A” permits, control operations are permitted throughout the capture of
Malaysia.

5) SUMMARY

Iman Cargo and Freight Services offers flexible service of transportation in delivering goods as
the delivery route covers the entire Peninsular route especially Northern and East Coast. The
company also shows its good reputation and goodwill by having different business operations
since its establishment such as transportation of goods, general trading, construction contract
and even vessel operation (rice production). The recent business that is in operation is
transporting rice from warehouses to subsidiaries of Bernas such as Syarikat Faiza Sdn Bhd,
Serba Wangi Sdn Bhd, Melia Best Sdn Bhd, Jasmine Food Corporation Sdn Bhd and YHL
Holding Sdn Bhd. The company policies that kept changing to suit the challenging competition
with the industrial rivals managed to keep the business running successfully and improve its
overall management since 1994.
