Condition For Boost Charge
Condition For Boost Charge
Condition For Boost Charge
1. After discharge.
2. If specific gravity (corrected for temperature)
of any cell is more than 10 points (0.010)
below the full charge value while on float.
3. If the voltage of any cell is more than 0.04
volt below the average cell voltage when the
battery is on float.
4. If the level in any cell or cells falls at or near
the minimum fill line a lot of distilled water
must be added to restore the level to the
maximum fill line. If this condition occurs, an
equalizing charge must be performed to
restore specific gravity.

The Chief Engineer TSG (North) NTDC Lahore Technical team visited at
220KV Grid Station Asset Management (North) NTDC Jaranwala Road Faisalabad
on 19.06.2020 to 23.06.2020 for Testing and Calibration of Four (04) numbers Battery
Chargers.
The following works have been completed in presence and coordination with
Mr. Wajahat Saleem Hashmi Deputy Manager 220KV Grid Station Asset Management
(North) NTDC Jaranwala Road Faisalabad and Mr. Muhammad Afzal Assistant Manager
(Maintenance) 220KV Grid Station Asset Management (North) NTDC Jaranwala Road
Faisalabad.
BATTERY CHARGERS
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEMS
i. Main bridge conduction were found incorrect unbalance.
ii. Float, boost and Current limiting set points were found incorrect.
iii. MCB of Filter circuit having indiscriminate behavior, It is recommended to replace
earliest.

1.0V 236V 05 Amps 0.15%
0.5V 264V 23 Amps 0.07%
B. 220V BATTERY CHARGER Set – “B” (make Electroways - Pakistan).
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEMS
i. Main bridge conduction were found incorrect unbalance.
ii. Float, boost and Current limiting set points were found incorrect.
iii. Load voltage control circuit set points were found incorrect.
Ripple Voltage (p-p) Output Voltage Current (Battery + Load) %Ripple
1.8V 236V 05 Amps 0.27%
1.5V 264V 22 Amps 0.35%
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEMS
i. Float, boost and Current limiting set points were found incorrect.
ii. Timer for Auto Float / Boost function defective.
iii. Battery Charger AC Power Supply is connected with Yard AC supply, It is strongly
recommended connected independently / individually.
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEMS
i. Auto, Manual, Float, and boost set points were found incorrect.
ii. Current limiting set point were found incorrect.
iii. Load voltage control circuit set points were found incorrect.
iv. Battery Charger MCB indiscriminate Behavior, It strongly recommended for reliable DC
\
Power supply source to replace as early as possible.
ACTION TAKEN
All the problems of the Battery Chargers were attended / rectified at site.
The electronic components / spare parts used in repair of Battery Chargers were provided by
concerned Asset Management / GSO Maintenance staff. Calibration / Adjustments were made
according to the battery installed. Checking of ripple factor and oscillography test was also
carried out accordingly on Battery Chargers.
Recommendation
i. Periodic Testing and calibration of Sub Station Equipment should be carried out as
per SOP to maintain the Grid Station.
ii. Battery Bank Set ‘‘B’’ during boost charging no0t reducing charging current ≥15
Amp. It is recommended confirm Healthiness of battery bank from TSG battery
experts.
iii. Recommendations / issues can be attended at earliest.
