CEE 102/L – Second Exam – Summer/Term 2020

Instructions:

1. Please be guided on the given: “GUIDE ONLY! DON’T COPY. LOOK AT YOUR ID NUMBER”

Your ID no. example: 4 3 9 6 2 7g a b c d e f

Say for example the given are the following:

“aef” kg 427kg [do not add the numbers, just follow the order]
“cde” mm 962mm [do not add the numbers, just follow the order]
“3bf” N 337N [do not add the numbers, just follow the order]
“6a8” km 648km [do not add the numbers, just follow the order]

2. No need to copy the problems.

3. Write your solutions on a clean sheet of paper.
4. Your solution should be readable, otherwise the instructor will not check your
output.
5. Box your final answer, if none, no consideration.
6. Your file should be in pdf format. Upload it directly in “CEE 102/L – First Exam”.
7. Deadline on June 30, 2020 at 3:30 PM.
8. For every 5 minutes of delayed submission, the instructor will deduct 5% of the
maximum score attained.
9. Non following of instruction is not considered.

Problem Solving:

1. A constant force P = abc N acts on the body shown during only the first a m (from
point to point B) of its motion starting from rest. If µ=0.20, find the velocity of the
body after it has moved a total distance of (a+b) m (from point A to point C) where
Q = ace N.

2. A boy slides down a water chute, starting from rest at A. Neglecting friction.
a. What is the velocity of the boy at the end of the chute at B?
b. What is the velocity on entering the water C?
c. What is the horizontal distance from C and B?

3. Direct central impact occurs between a 2d-lb body moving with a velocity of 1a fps
going to the right and a 3b-lb body moving in the opposite direction with a velocity
of b fps. The 2d-lb body rebounds in the opposite direction with a velocity of c fps.
Compute the amount and direction of the velocity of the 3b-lb body.

4. A skier is on ac° slope. His mass is 8c kg. The kinetic coefficient of friction between
his skis and the snow is 𝜇𝑠 = 0.08. His velocity is b m/s.
a. What is his acceleration in the direction parallel to the slope?
b. What is his velocity when he has gone 2b m down the slope?
c. Determine skier’s velocity when he has gone 2b m down the slope if aerodynamic
drag exerts a force on the skier of magnitude 0.6V² where V is the magnitude of
his velocity.

5. A 1ec kg block is initially at rest on a horizontal surface. A horizontal force of 3bc

N is required to set the block in motion, after which a horizontal force of 2cc N is
required to keep the block moving with constant speed. Find
a. the coefficient of static friction
b. the coefficient of kinetic friction.

6. A 1ad N weight is swung in a vertical circle at the end of the b m cord at a constant
velocity of 1e m/s. Calculate the tension on the string
a. At the highest point.
b. At the lowest point.

7. A car negotiates a turn of radius 3dc m when the coefficient of static friction is 0.5.
what is the maximum speed to avoid slipping? 5 POINTS

8. The mass of each box is d kg. Friction is negligible. The boxes start from rest at t=0.
a. Determine the magnitude of their velocity at t= 1sec, when they have moved from
their initial position.
b. Determine the distance they have moved from their initial position at t=1 sec.
c. Determine the magnitude of their velocity at t= 1 sec. if the coefficient of kinetic
friction between the boxes and the surface is µk = 0.1f
