ES 61 Lesson 2

This document discusses laws and rules for analyzing rigid bodies in statics, including the parallelogram law which states that the effect of two nonparallel forces is equal to the diagonal of their parallelogram, and the polygon rule for summing forces in a closed polygon. It also covers the triangle rule and laws of sines and cosines for relating side lengths and angles in triangles. Examples are provided to demonstrate applying these rules and laws to solve statics problems involving rigid bodies.

Summary
Parallelogram Law
The effect of two nonparallel forces F1 and F2
acting at a point A of a body is the same as the
effect of the single force R acting at the same
point and obtained as the diagonal of the
parallelogram formed by F1 and F2.
