Abstract: Advancement of technology and increasing population in rural areas has led to
absolute land spaces, thus construction of tall buildings is the only solution for these vast
growing population. These tall structures are susceptible to experience earthquake loads also
called seismic excitation. Tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) and tuned liquid column ball
damper (TLCBD) are one of the most effective passive control devices used to mitigate
seismic vibrations on tall buildings, these dampers have water sloshing criteria to counteract
the seismic responses, it is effective when the devices are properly tuned with the structure.
TLCD is tuned by means of orifice plates to control head loss and TLCBD is tuned by the
moving ball inside the horizontal tube portion. The main objective of the research is to
mitigate the seismic vibration by implementing TLCD and TLCBD and are compared with
each other for best performance. The mathematical modelling of the structure with damper
was modelled in MATLAB software. The motive is to replace the overhead water tank with
the passive dampers that will save the space, additional load and cost effective.
