definition

What is Tuberculosis?
tuberculosis is a disease caused by bacteria.
The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but
they can also damage other parts of the
body.

It's spread when a person with active TB disease in


their lungs coughs or sneezes and someone else
inhales the expelled droplets, which contain TB
bacteria.
Although TB is spread in a similar way to a cold or flu,
it is not as contagious.

system, such as diabetes
people who are very young or very old – the immune
systems of people who are young or elderly tend to
be weaker than those of healthy adults

Treatment
Patients will be prescribed at least a 6-month
course of a combination of antibiotics to the
afffected lungs. It may be several weeks before
you start to feel better. The exact length of time
will depend on your overall health and the severity
of your TB.
