Installation of MVLC-18 and MVLC-38 using MVLC-Hand-Tool-02

Safety Instructions Tool and Product Nomenclature


Warning: When installing electrical power system accessories,
failure to follow applicable personal safety requirements and written

Danger! The MVLC installation must be made in accordance with


company approved safe work practices when working with an
energized conductor. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or

As Tyco Electronics has no control over field conditions which Arrow

take this into account and apply his own experience and expertise
when installing product.

Installation Instructions

Part One: Perform Prior to Installation on Conductor

1. Place a 6-12"(150-300mm) length of MVLC in your right Receptacle


hand and the MVLC hand tool in your left hand. Creepage extender

2. Make sure that the arrow and creepage extender are


on the near side and the receptacle is on the far side.

3. Use your right hand as a funnel to initiate the _9

wrapping/closing of the product.

4. While keeping the creepage extender above the brass


zipper, slide the arrow and receptacle into their respective
compartments underneath the brass zipper.

Part Two: To Install MVLC on Conductor

1. To install MVLC on conductor, place the hand tool under


the conductor.

2. Wrap the MVLC around the conductor such that the arrow
and creepage extender are on the near side.

3. Place the creepage extender under the conductor.

4. Continue sliding the MVLC towards the hand tool, ensuring
that the creepage extender stays below the conductor, but
slides on top of the brass zipper. Slide the arrow and
receptacle into their respective compartments under the brass
zipper.

5. Continue pushing the product to the left and the hand tool
to the right until the MVLC installation is complete.

For Vertical Installations of MVLC on Conductor Leads:

1. Measure the length of the conductor,"x", excluding the


lugs. Cut the required length of MVLC.

2. Place the hand tool in your left hand such that the rollers
and handle slide against the contour of the conductor and are
approximately halfway up the conductor.

3. Place the MVLC product in your right hand, ensuring that


the arrow and creepage extender are on the near side. Wrap
the MVLC product around the conductor such that the
creepage extender is below the conductor, but on top of the
brass zipper. While holding the tool in your left hand, slide the
arrow and receptacle into their respective compartments.

4. While holding the tool steady, continue pushing the MVLC
product toward the top lug.

5. When the MVLC reaches the top lug, grip the closed MVLC
with your left hand and use your right hand to pull the tool
towards the bottom lug.

6. MVLC installation is complete.

7. Continue installation by placing a BCIC cover on the


bushing.
