    Problem statement:

    q Wastage of power is now a days becoming a major problem in our


    society
    q Even after sunrise and at unnecessary times (when there are no
    vehicles on the road) the street lights are glowing. Due to this more
    power is getting wasted.
    Existing solution & new solution

    q There are some street lights where they will be ON only at


    particular (like 6PM – 6AM).
    q There will be no manual involvement to on and off the lights
    q With already existing solution, here we also use some sensors which
    detect movement of vehicles at night time.
    q By this the street lights will get on automatically when vehicle arrives.
    Otherwise it will remain in off condition.

    q A smart street light solution involves following components:

    have the ability to control the lamp’s functions, collect environmental
    parameters.

    q LoRa (Long Range ) is a


    Communication technology.
    q LoRa Technology is the
    BACKBONE of IoT, connecting
    sensors to the cloud and enabling
    real-time communication of data
    and analytics that can be utilized
    to enhance efiiciency and
    productivity.

    q LoRa Technology offers an efficient, flexible and economical solution to real-


    world problems in rural and indoor use cases, where cellular and Wi-Fi/ BLE
    based networks are ineffective.

    Smart street light solution:

    q Luminaire controller sends data payload such as energy parameters


    at scheduled frequency to the LoRa gateway.
    q Each gateway handles the messages and data such as from all
    nearby lamps.
    q Once a message is sent to the gateway, it is forwarded on to a
    network server where the data can be analyzed.
    q The LoRa gateway communicates to the Network management
    servers via backhaul network (3G, Ethernet etc.)
    q Network management servers role is to monitor and control the
    street lights

    q The server controls lighting function remotely and can send


    maintenance alerts upon detection of a burnt-out bulb or other
    problems.
    q Monitoring includes looking for failures and observing the energy
    consumption of the street lights among other actions.
    q On the other hand, autonomous-distributed controlled light system, in
    which the lights turn on before pedestrians or vehicles come and turn
    off or reduce brightness to save electric power when there is no
    traffic.

    q The controlling of the lights is done at the light’s premises using


    wireless and pyroelectric infrared sensors.
    q Smart Street Light Application helps to receive various inputs from
    Luminaires such as energy parameters, environmental conditions.
    q The application can also send commands from remote location to
    switch on/off and dim the luminaire.
