(I) Vocational Education
The following points were discussed
 The Indian youth needs to be empowered and it can be done through good
education and vocational training.
 NEP states that “at least 50% of learners going through the school and
higher education system” shall have exposure to vocational education.
 NEP highlights that “beginning with vocational exposure at early ages in
middle and secondary school, quality vocational education will be integrated
smoothly into higher education.
Goals and Actions:
Goal: Awareness about the importance of VE through social media and ICT.
Action: Awareness programs will be organized to change the general perception.
Goal: Students will be allowed to mix match academics with skills education with
sports and arts and with soft skills.
Action: Collaboration of schools with industrial training, institutes, local business
industries etc.
Goal: Carrer counseling and guidance will be provided to children in classes 9 to
12 so that they can make a career choice based on their interests.
Action: Skill based aptitude test (SBAT) will be introduced in class 8.
 Initiatives for strengthening vocational education in schools by NCERT.
What schools should do?
 Early exposure to the vocational education.
 Integration of VE with main stream education (Multi-disciplinary approach)
 Developing industry alignment for VE (experiential learning).
 Appreciating dignity of labor by organizing promotional programmes at
school.
Alignment with national skill qualification framework (NSQF)
Methods to be followed for VE- Experimental method, real life learning.
Role of NCERT in fostering VE.
(II) CHALLENGES
 Time available for working with students.
 Access to computers and smart class for making the process of skill
development easy.
 Co-ordination with academic curriculum.
 Expert guidance in near locality.
 Well-equipped lab to perform particular experiment.
(III) SUGGESTIONS
 Can work for skill development in summer vacation.
 By community support.
 Motivating students to work on holidays.
 Approaching to specific expert by taking permission from authorities.
(IV) LEARNING OUTCOMES
 VE training profiles / standards will balance and combine general
knowledge subjects (languages, maths , history) with general and transversal
skills and occupation, specific knowledge skills and competencies.
 Helps students in the better performance of their jobs as they acquire a great
learning experience.

Teachers and faculty development
 Aiming for high professional standards among teachers, the new education
policy has proposed the establishment of a common guiding set of a national
professional standard for teachers (NPST) by 2022.
 The new standards will guide the role of a teacher at different stages and the
competencies required for that stage.
(I) The following points were discussed
Teacher education – Imperatives for ensuring quality.
 Preparation of teachers to face the challenges of the dynamic society and
impart quality education.
 Appropriateness of design, effectiveness of curriculum, soundness of
structure, visibility of organization, efficiency of transactional modes,
appropriate integration of technology.
 Continuous commitment to meaningful research and innovation.
Providing quality and empowered teachers to school system
Implementation modalities
 Capacity building of teachers to develop recruitment, transfer and
recognition policy for teachers.
 NCF has to make action plan.
 Merit based scholarship for 4-year B.ed integrated.
 Teachers eligibility test.
Teacher education courses
 Integrated 4-year B.ed.
 2-year B.ed.
 1-year B.ed.
Other programmes
 Special shorter local teacher education programs at DIETS, BITES, school
complexes.
 Shorter post- B.ed certification courses including special educators.
Development of National cuticulum for teachers – NCTE
Emphasis on continuous professional development of teachers
Systemic reform for teacher education
Recognition and reward to teachers for outstanding performance.
(II) CHALLENGES
 Improving working conditions of teachers.
 Providing quality teachers.
(III) SUGGESTIONS
 Ensuring decent and pleasant service conditions at schools.
 Rationalization of schools without reducing accessibility for effective school
governance.
 Teachers should not be engaged in work that is not directly related to
teaching.
 Teachers classroom demonstration to be an integral part, apart of TET or
NTA test scores.
 A tech based comprehensive teacher requirement.
(IV) LEARNING OUTCOMES
 Ability to convey concepts effectively to students.
 Winning the confidence of students.
 Ability to make a difference in students.
 Understanding and application of concepts.
 Ability to pick up and utilize new skills.
 Better learning experience inside and as well as outside the classrooms.
