BK3: COPING WITH COVID-19

The Covid-19 affected thousands of people, who are either sick or are being infected by
the novel virus. This event causes unprecedented challenges in our lives in many ways and
disrupted our daily movements and whereabouts. Such reasons, people or every family are being
cautious and sometimes paranoid on how to prevent their love ones from being infected. Every
family have their own coping and preventive measures as this unseen virus brought not only
public health alarms but also into everyone’s overall well-being.

I and my family are currently staying here in Metro Manila. I am living in an apartment
building together with my uncle and sister. Since the day the virus had been carried here in the
country my sister and uncle started to buy necessary preventive materials such as alcohol,
facemasks and other stuffs useful for sanitations. At first, I am personally hesitant to start
wearing facemasks when I went to school because it is not comfortable, just to be honest. But the
time the government imposed necessary actions to prevent it from spreading, I and my family
started to feel anxious to roam around the city and meet other person outside. But not only
unable to bond with friends is restrcted but also the work of my relatives which is more
problematic for it is the only source for our daily living. Due to the changes brought by the
COVID-19 pandemic here are some of the specific practices or habits my family now have due
to the health crises. First, If the reason to go outside is just to roam around it is better to stay at
home. It is the first and most important habit or agreement my family have. Second, always wear
and take facemass, faceshields and alcohol whenever going out and see to it before going inside
we took a bath to dis-infect our body. Third, maintaining close and interactive conversions with
family members and friends even they are far away through online platforms. It was always been
a culture for us to constantly talk over phone with my other siblings and to my parents to catch
up with daily know-hows.

In fact, having a constant connection and conversation with my family and friends helps
me personally to keep my eagerness and courage to continue my studies and my everyday
routine. So, here are some of my daily routine that help maintains my mental health well-being.
First, I joined into various groups in and outside the premise of our school. For example my
PEER Organization in FEU-Makati is one of my pillars that helps me interact and socialize with
other students and friends virtually. We had Kamustahan meetings and it enable me to meet other
students from other campuses that have the same goal as what our organization have. Second, I
constantly attend webinars online about different topics most of it are about coping in this
pandemic and how to be resilient in this challenging times. Which in return, helps me to think
more positively and to appreciate the opportunity it offers to me to have time with my siiblings
and parents aside from alloting all my time into school stuffs. These things I have mentioned are
only part of my routine that helps and keeps me moving forward day by day with a brighter smile
and hopes that days to come will be better.
