INTRODUCTION

Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) aims to help learners who have

difficulty in Science subject. This SIM also contains different activities for

learners who are now in the New Normal School Setting. This will help them

learn more and become productive even in this time of pandemic.

To the parents, your time to assist and support your children to learn and

study their lessons is very vital at this moment in order for them to understand

the lesson well. You can use this module as a tool to help your children learn

more but let them answer the questions. Use another sheet of paper for your

answers. Do not write anything on this module.

To the learners use this tool to help you learn more. You can ask your

parents assistance if you have difficulty but still you need to answer the

questions and do the activity on your own.

Content: Characteristics of solids, liquids, and gases.


Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of ways
of sorting materials and describing them as solid, liquid, or gas based
on observable properties.

Performance Standard: The learners should be able to group


common objects found at home and in school according to solids,
liquids and gas.

Learning Competency: Classify objects and materials as solid,


liquid, and gas based on some observable characteristics.

We all know that most liquids have taste. They can also be described by their

taste. Some liquids have the same taste others are different. Liquids that are

sweet can be grouped together, sour liquids in another group, as well as bitter

and salty can be grouped according to their taste.

Water as a liquid is known to be tasteless or has no taste at all.


Here is the different taste of liquids:
1. Sweet- tasting or smelling of sugar or a similar substance.
Here are examples of liquids that are sweet:

Honey Condensed Milk


Yakult drink

2. Sour- sharp taste that is acidic like lemon and unripe


mango.
Examples of Liquids that are sour:

apple cider lemon extract vinegar


3. Salty- containing or tasting of salty.
Examples of Liquids that
2 are Salty:
Soy sauce egg soup
Salty Liquid
(water with salt )

4. Bitter- having a sharp strong unpleasant taste such as


the taste of the orange peel.

Examples of liquids that are bitter:

bitter gourd juice medicine black coffee

5. Tasteless or no taste- having little or no flavor; lack
of taste.

Note:
Some liquids are not for tasting because they are maybe poisonous. Let
us follow strictly the safety measures in handling liquids.
