What should Sophie report in her expense report?


ANS:- I think she should stick with what Emma said to her to add the tips in the expense report
with the help of some illegal yet not completely false bills as they actually paid the tips to the
waiters, cab drivers, bellhops and airport baggage handlers.
Also the expenses must be not more than 18-20 percent above the bills and should match the
expense report of Emma as well because they both travelled together.

Identify The issues Sophie has to resolve?


ANS:-The following issues need to be solved by Sophie
1)As the relationship between Sophie and Emma is not yet rock solid Sophie is trying to
understand Emma.

2)Emma shows Sophie her working style and how she fills the expense report.
Emma files her report against the company policies.

3)Sophie has to think whether she will file her report on the basis of company policies or file it as
Emma has filed as suggested to fill or both will file the same report as the correct one or the
wrong one.

Analyse the alternatives for Sophie?


Some of the alternatives may be right or wrong depending on the consequences and the final
decision has to be taken by Sophie herself.
The alternatives are as follows:
1)Sophie can write a letter stating about the extra expense incurred by the salesperson and
changes in the layout of the expense form after a discussion with the accounting department
and also express some alternatives to file the extra expense with some accounting guidelines
put forward by the company.
2)Sophie can file her report the same as Emma has done and after filing she can go and talk
with the accountant regarding her concerns with the layout of the expense report.

3)There is also another alternative that Sophie files her report the same as Emma and does not
talk with anyone and take the expense money reimbursed.

4)Sophie can file her own report with the company set guidelines and let Emma file it her own
way. In this case there's a chance of a rift between the sales team i.e Emma and Sophie.

5)Sophie can directly report about Emma’s false practices and explain that the sales team does
this because of the rigidness of the accounts department to change the format of the expense
report according to the suggested way.But this could result in loss of job for both Emma and
Sophie and also of the entire Sales Team.

What should Sophie do if company policy appears to conflict with the firm’
corporate culture?

1)Sophie should find someone or a group of people and seek inspiration from them.

2)Sophie should keep doing the work that other people in the company are doing and have
been in the company for a longer period of time.

3) It is not worth risking the job as the company must be paying for the tips paid so basically
what is done by the sales team is right.

4)She should try and talk to more and more employees to get to understand about the
companies working towards the expense report.

5)Sophie should address the accounts department of the issues with the report format and try to
explain that the expenses paid are for the company's trip and it looks embarrassing not tipping
the workers who earn majorly from the tips given to them.

6)Sophie should also talk to the Senior Sales Person to get to know about the practices to file
expense reports which are illegal and that which are acceptable.
