1. 从来（ADV）: from the past until now (as Present


Perfect Tense)
a. Subj. + 从来 + 都 (是) + Predicate = Always
EX: 我从来都是一个人住。
（I have always lived alone ）
b. Subj. + 从来 + 不 + [Verb Phrase] = never
you never do something (as a h ；abit, or as a rule)

EX: 她 从来 不 吃鱼。


（She never eats fish）
c. Subj. + 从 来 + 没 ( 有 ) + Verb + 过 =
have never done something
 (it's not a part of your life experience). You're talking about the
past now, because you're talking about what you haven't done
before, so 没有 (méiyǒu) is appropriate. 过 also makes sense,
because you're making a statement about your life experience.

EX: 他从来没看过这本书。
（He has never read this book.）
2. 始终(Adv): From beginning to end; all along;
all the time; always
S + 始终+ verb
Ex: 他从来不关电视机，他的电视机始终开着。
 
(He never switched off his TV, which always stayed
on).
3.忍不住：cannot help; unable to bear
Indicates that there is no ability to achieve the result of the
action
S + 忍不住+ verb
Ex：听过这个有趣的故事后，所有人都忍不住
笑了。 
（After hearing the funny story, nobody could
help laughing.）
4. 出来: to come out; to appear; to arise
(It's useful for adding information to verbs)
a. Verb + 出来 to express physical movement
The first usage of this pattern is to express physical movement.
The characters 出 and 来 are literally “out” and “come”, so this
pattern means “come out”. When verb + 出来 is used in this way, it
simply expresses that the during the action of the verb, something
comes out of something else.
This pattern is fairly easy to use. Simply place 出来 right after
the verb, and you're done.
Ex: 一个犯人从监狱里逃出来了。
(A criminal escaped from prison.)
b. Verb + 出来 to express a result
The same construction can also be used to express more
metaphorical meanings. These include:
- The success of an action;
- The completion of an action;
- Recognition;
- Gaining information from an action;
In any case, the meaning here is just a metaphorical version of
the one above. Something is coming out from the action, but it could
be information or some sort of result.

Ex: 我能听出来他们的声音。
(I recognize their voices.)
他猜出来了这个字的意思。
(He guessed the meaning of the character)
你能吃出来大蒜的味道吗？
Can you taste the garlic?
5. 一下： a little bit,
(used after a verb) give it a go; to do (sth for a bit to give it a try); one time; once; in a
while; all of a sudden; all at once

“一下” has no meanings, it's similar to the prepositions such as to/at/ect. to link
the verbs and the nouns, but Chinese always omit the nouns. So you just know the verb
you can understand the phrase。

“看一下” means “Have a look at this” in English，usually “Have a look” in short.


“听一下” means “Listen to this” in English, usually “Listen” in short.

一下” means suddenly, something happened quickly or unexpectedly. “我一下


就醒了”(wo yi xia jiu xing le) we say this sentence in the situation that I'm asleep and
wake up by a loud noise/ gunshot/ nightmare/ crying or something terrible or irritating.
