C. Motivation
Michelle got a P12,000 cash gift from her father for her birthday.
She decided to give 25% of it to the church.
Questions.
1. Who got cash gift from her father?
2. How much did she get?
3. Why did his father gave her a cash gift?
4. Why did she decided to give some money to the church?
5. How much did she give to the church?
6. What are given?
7. How many percentages of the cash gift did Michelle give to the church?
8. How many percentages of cash gift were left?
STEPS
Step 1: Obtain the percentage
Step 2: Convert the percentage into fraction by dividing it by 100 and removing percentage
symbol (%).
Step 3: Reduced the fraction obtained in step 2 in the simplest form.
Step 4: Write the fraction obtained in Step 3 as a ratio.
G. Generalization
Ask: What is the relationship of percentage to a fraction, decimals and to ratio?
If your data is written in percentage form, can you write it in fraction form? How can we get Percent
equivalent of ratio and fraction?
Remember
• Percent means, per 100 or you can think of it as, “Out of 100”.
• Percent can also be written as fraction, decimal and ratio. Percent means the whole is divided
into 100 equal parts.
• To change percent to decimal, move the decimal point two places to the left then remove the
percent symbol.
• A ratio is a comparison between two qualities.
