Solar Battery

One of the fastest-growing sources of energy has become the solar

panel systems. According to the Solar Energy Industries
Association, in 2016 the solar market has doubled in its size. The
increase in use of solar power led to the rise of a renewable
technology named as solar batteries .It can store additional solar
power for further use. It is rechargeable .Solar batteries integrates
a solar cell with battery power storage. Solar battery is also named
as rechargeable batteries which have been developed specifically
for use in photovoltaic systems. Stand-alone systems use solar
batteries for storage of energy produced by solar panels.

Researchers at Ohio State University developed the first solar

battery in 2014. They used a dye-sensitized solar cell using
ruthenium that stores the power .It uses air to decompose and re-
form lithium peroxide.

Solar batteries use three electrodes. It has a lithium plate base, two
layers of electrode separated by a thin sheet of porous carbon and
a titanium gauze mesh that played host to a dye-sensitive photo
electrode. Battery’s ions oxidize into lithium peroxide by porous
materials, which chemically decompose into lithium ions and
stored as lithium metal. The device used conventional liquid
electrolyte consisting of part salt and part solvent.
Solar batteries are the main component of solar applications like
off-grid and grid tied solar system. Also called deep cycle batteries,
solar batteries aren’t the regular type of batteries. Off grid
photovoltaic (PV) solar power equipment requires a battery to
store the energy accumulated during the sunny hours, for use at
night. These solar batteries store power from the main sun while
the conventional batteries stores power comes from power source
electricity. In most applications, lead acid batteries are preferred
as these are maintenance free and do not emit any harmful gases
during the charging process. Solar batteries are widely used in
solar home lighting systems and solar street light systems.

Tubular Battery

The technology used in tubular battery is that the active material

in polyester tubes called gauntlets is sealed, instead of pasting it
on the surface of the plate so that it prevent corrosion or shedding.
It ensures long battery life.

The tubular battery is a type of lead acid battery. There are only

small differences between flat plate and tubular batteries. These
small differences make a big impact on the lifespan of battery,
weight, efficiency and price.

In this type of battery electrode type is negative plate and positive

tube. Its life is 5 years. It has high efficiency so there is very less
wastage of current and has lesser electricity bills. Maintenance is
medium for Tubular battery.

In Flat plate battery electrode type is positive and negative. Its life
is 3 years. It has low efficiency as there is much wastage of current.
Maintenance is high for Flat plate battery.
