1. Check top diameter of bushing bore and bowl seat for burrs and damaged edges. File or
grind flush as required.
2. Clean the inside taper of the insert bowls to remove any abrasive material. This will
minimize rapid wear of slip backs and taper and also provide easier handling of slips.
3. Lubricate the inside taper of drilling bowls to prevent slips from sticking.
4. Lubricate the back of the insert bowl each time it is removed from the bushing body. This
will prevent bowls and slips from sticking and reduce master bushing body ID wear.
5. Replace lock assembly whenever damaged.
6. Replace API bowls when throat diameter exceeds maximum recommended dimension.
7. Replace API bowls when tapered area indicates wear.
8. Keep hinge pins lubricated and cleaned (HMB only).
9. Clean out bowl lock holes each time bowls are removed. Dirt in these holes will cause
the lock tab to break off (HMB only).
