We use comparative adjectives to describe people and things.

Examples:

old older

slower
slow

expensive more expensive

1. Form the comparative forms of a one-syllable adjective by adding –er.

young younger

small smaller

fast faster
Add –er to adjectives that end in consonant-vowel-consonant and
double the last consonant.

big
bigger

fat
fatter

More examples:
Replace the y with an i and then add the -er.

happier
happy
For an adjective with two or more syllabus, add the word
more or less in front of the adjective.

difficult more difficult

expensive more expensive

There are some adjectives that have irregular comparative
forms.

good
When we want to compare two things we use than after
comparatives.

tall - Mark is taller than Susan.

dangerous
- A snake is more dangerous than a dog.
Una serpiente es más peligrosa que un perro.
Comparatives can be modified with much / a lot / far / a
little / a bit / slightly

rich richer
más rico.

much richer
mucho más rico.
Bob is much richer than I am.
Bob es mucho más rico de lo que yo soy.

long longer
más largo

slightly longer
ligeramente más largo

My mother’s hair is slightly longer than mine.


El cabello de mi mama es ligeramente más largo que el mío.
