IN-SERVICE TRAINING NARRATIVE REPORT

MARCH 15-19, 2021
THEME: “MOTIVATING TEACHING WORKFORCE THROUGH CONTINUOUS
LEARNING IN THE NEW NORMAL EDUCATION”

Pursuant to Division Memorandum No. 022, s. 2021 which pertains to

Suggested Activities for Two-Week Academic Break, Lumangbayan National High School
conducted School-based In-Service Training (INSET) held on March 15-19, 2021. The
said activity is also in line with DepEd No. 012, s. 2021 titled Amendment to DepEd
Order No. 030, s. 2020 (School Calendar of Activities for School Year 2020-2021).
The aim of the In-service training for teachers was to provide clear guidance on
the Results-based Performance Management System for School Year 2020-2021
(Memorandum DM-PHROD-2021-0010). The training also ensured learning continuity
relative to test construction and portfolio assessment, updates on DepEd Issuances and
development of e-lessons and intervention materials.
This year’s In-Service Training focused on the following:
 DepEd Issuances particularly DepEd Order No. 030 s. 2019 entitled “The
Department of Education Manual of Style” and DepEd Order No. 031 s.
2019 entitled “The Department of Education Marks and Visual Identity
Manual”
 Constructing of effective assessment tools (HOTS)
 Virtual teaching through the use of video recording
 Preparing for RPMS 2020-2021 teacher’s portfolio with acceptable MOVs
per KRA indicator

DAY 1

Julie Ann P. Pastor, Teacher I was in-charge of the registration of participants

from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. The training was hosted by the INSET Coordinator, Salvacion F.
Untalan, Teacher I. Before starting the program, she enumerated some house rules to
ensure the smooth facilitation of the training. The program was started by a prayer led
by Kris Catherine G. Berania, Municipal Funded Teacher followed by singing of the
National Anthem. To inspire the participants, Food for Thought was shared by the
Faculty President, Queengel C. Andal. She presented a heartwarming video and
conveyed a note “If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results
of a hundred battles-by Sun Tzu.” When we enter a battle, our greatest enemy is
ourselves. We need to conquer that fear of losing to win the battle. In teaching, we need
to set aside our doubts to ourselves but rather we should find ways to strengthen our
abilities so that we will be able to face changes especially in this time of pandemic.
After the food for thought, opening remarks was delivered by the School Head,
Myra M. Malaluan PhD. The first speaker for Day 1 was Queengel C. Andal. Before the
discussion about DepEd Order 30 s. 2019 “The Department of Education Manual of
Style”, there is a preliminary activity called “Catch me, I’m peeling.” In this activity, the
participants guessed the jumbled word in the crumpled paper. If the participant got the
correct answer, he/she will get a reward then the ball will be passed on to other
participants. The said activity was enjoyed by the participants and they got motivated
throughout the training.
As teachers, drafting letters are part of our job that is why we need to follow
DepEd Order 30 s. 2019 “The Department of Education Manual of Style.” The
Manual contains set of rules of standards which shall serve as reference for DepEd
personnel involved in styling and formatting DepEd issuances and other official
documents to ensure clarity; completeness of information; conciseness; and consistency
in spelling, grammar, punctuation, hyphenation, capitalization, typeface and
abbreviation, among other rules.
Next topic was about DepEd Order 31, s. 2019 ““The Department of Education
Marks and Visual Identity Manual.” This was tackled by Salvacion F. Untalan,
Teacher I. The said DepEd issuance is very important because it contains guidelines on
the specification and applications of the Department’s name, seal, and logo to produce a
unified look in all DepEd Communications and publications.
During the workshop, the participants were divided into three groups. The 1 st
group made a letter of request addressed to Schools Division Superintendent about the
upcoming community service of SSG officers. The 2 nd group created ID for the
participants while the 3rd group drafted the Certificate of Participation. After the
workshop, a sumptuous lunch was prepared for the participants.
Afternoon session was allotted for demonstration teaching. From 1:00 to 2:00
p.m., Jonathan M. Politico, Teacher III had the Demonstration Teaching in
Mathematics which talked about the “Undefined Terms.” There were a lot of engaging
activities during the demo teaching and all the teachers participated very well.

The next demo teaching was presented by Gelson Laurence M. Malaluan, Teacher I
from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. He discussed “Drafting of Roof Plan” for the TLE subject. The said
demo was done in a well-prepared manner that encouraged all the teachers to take part
in group activities. After the two demo teachings, coaching and technical assistance by
the School Head, Myra M. Malaluan PhD immediately followed.

DAY 2
Registration was done from 7:30 - 7:45 a.m. To start the program, an invocation
was presented by Salvacion F. Untalan. Jay Ar A. Anie had a recap for what had
transpired during the first day of training. For the first part of the morning session, an
additional seminar about Organic Farming was rendered by the invited resource
speaker, Sir Lee Q. Barile. The said short seminar was very informative and beneficial
for the teachers since the school will have a project “Gulayan sa Paaralan.” The
discussion was immediately followed by awarding of certificate and token of
appreciation.
For the second part of the morning session, Dr. Myra M. Malaluan shared
important insights about Test Construction and Assessment which emphasized creating
HOTS questions. As teachers, we should always develop the higher-order thinking skills
of the students. In that way, we help them to develop their learning and be creative. By
revisiting the Revised Blooms taxonomy, it will be easy for us to construct HOTS
questions by familiarizing with the key words associated in each level of hierarchy:
remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate and create. Remember, when we do the
Table of Specification before we do our summative test, we consider these levels of
thinking. We should not be stagnant in using LOTS questions (Remember, understand
and apply) only throughout the test. By doing this, we cannot measure students’
learning by just memorizing facts, events, etc. We may ask them what could they infer
about certain event or analyze situations.
The discussion imparted us new knowledge that we could use in assessment. As
an output for this topic, teachers were asked to construct a 30-item multiple choice test
for each subject handled. There must be four summative tests for 3 rd grading signed by
parents which can serve as MOV for the RPMS Portfolio.
At 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon, Jay Ar A. Anie had the demo teaching which
discussed about the “Antas ng Wika.” At 2:00 pm., Efren B. Tayaotao presented his
topic in Araling Panlipunan 9 which is about “Pag-iimpok.” The topic was so timely and
practical for all of us teachers. We should not spend money more than we earn. It is
time to correct the notion about the teachers being taga-London-“Loan dito, loan doon.”
At 3:00 p.m., Rodmin D. Legaspi demonstrated a very interactive lesson about Carpentry
Tools and Materials. Teachers participated in different activities.

After the demonstration teaching, the three were called to Office of the School
Head for coaching/technical assistance.

DAY 3

The third day of the training began by a prayer led by Ms. Anne Jheel Joyce F.
Goda, Municipal Funded followed by a short recap of Day 2 done by Queengel C. Andal.
The speaker for the day was Myra M. Malaluan PhD. She explained the Result-based
Performance Management System SY 2020-2021 very well. She stressed the 11
objectives that were selected based on being more responsive and appropriate to the
current context of the teachers, learners, and the learning environment in time of
pandemic. As an output, teachers were asked to submit RPMS Portfolio for midyear
review.
For the afternoon session, demonstration teaching was delivered by Julie Ann P.
Pastor, Teacher I. She discussed different types of volcano. All the teachers also
participated in group activities. After the demo, teaching, Ms. Pastor was called for
coaching & technical assistance.

DAY 4

The fourth day of the training began by a prayer led by Janet U. Rabusa,
Municipal Funded followed by a short recap of Day 3 done by Salvacion F. Untalan. To
motivate the teachers, a Food For Thought was shared by Efren B. Tayaotao. The
speaker for the day was Jonathan M. Politico, ICT Coordinator. Before he discussed
the topic, he presented an inspiring video. The topic for the 4 th day was all about “Virtual
Teaching Through Creating Video Lesson. There are lot of types of video lesson but the
highlight was creating screencast video. Screencast is a digital video recording of the
computer screen usually includes narration. We learned a lot from this topic. This will
be very useful for us because we find more innovative way to teach the students. It was
agreed that we are going to create at least two videos for each quarter. Teachers
participated in the workshop.
For the afternoon session, demo teaching of Jailencris O. Dimalibot, Salvacion
F. Untalan and Queengel C. Andal was observed. Technical assistance immediately
followed.
DAY 5

The last day of the training started by a prayer followed by a short recap. To
motivate the teachers, a MOL was given to participants.
The morning session was allotted for Planning for 3 rd Quarter headed by Dr. Myra
M. Malaluan. The planning comprised 2 areas: Instructional and Physical facilities.
The schedule for distribution of module, preparation of learning materials, updating
class records/giving grades and preparing for Senior High School. are some of the topics
discussed. For physical properties, ongoing school projects was stressed out. Also,
important deadlines of documents needed to be submitted were reminded. The awarding
of certificates for participants and resource speakers took part in the afternoon. Closing
remarks was delivered by the School Head and acknowledgment to the Committee of the
Program.
