Romeo and Juliet Scene Re-Write The Assignment: Ms. Elbert's English 9 Name
Tasks:
Step 1 – With your group, decide on a theme that everyone likes
Step 2 – Break up the lines (not caring who will be speaking them in the end) into equal chunks. Each
person in the group is responsible for re-writing their assigned chunk of lines. These re-writes are just a
first draft. They are ideas and might be changed at any point! You will turn in a paper copy of your re-
written lines to show how you contributed to your group’s success. (HOMEWORK FOR NOVEMBER
27)
If you have talked to Ms. Elbert about being an Exception group, you will turn in a paragraph describing:
at least two ideas you contributed to the group, and one way (be specific) that you helped the group to
work well as a team.
Step 3 – Work as a team to put all the rewritten pieces together into one script. Pay attention to:
⇒ character (Do the characters have personalities that stay the same through the scene? They should
have strong personalities! How will the lines show their personalities? How will their actions
show their personalities?)
⇒ stage directions (Did you start with a setting? Did you list every entry and exit for each
character? Do you have stage directions for fights, moving props, or mega-moments? Did you put
in a tone of voice (eg. sarcastic, flirty, sad) for important lines?)
⇒ showing the theme (How do the rewritten lines show your theme? Do you need any costumes or
props? Who will be responsible for making / bringing each prop and costume? Where at school
would you like to film your scene?)
Step 4 – On Friday we will film our scenes at various locations through the school. BRING YOUR FINAL
COPY SCRIPT.
Final Product:
1 script per group including rewritten lines and stage directions. Must be typed and have all
contributing members’ names on the paper. DUE BEGINNING OF CLASS FRIDAY
1 handwritten set of lines per person to show what you contributed to the group’s rewrite
( OR if exception group, one paragraph describing two specific ideas you contributed to the
group and one specific way that you helped the group to work as a team)
1 video of actors playing parts. May be edited or unedited. May use scripts or be memorized.
Must include at least 1 costume and at least 1 prop. DUE END OF CLASS FRIDAY
