right path towards discovering more about the topic. Are you ready?

Learning About It

Traditionally, students like you, need to visit the library to borrow books and
search for it in the card catalog cabinet. But with technology, electronic card catalog
was developed.

It is called Online Public Access Catalog

(often abbreviated as OPAC or simply
library catalog). It is an online database of
materials held by a library or group of
libraries. Users search in library catalog
principally to locate books and other
material available at a library.

However, during a time when circumstances like the library are closed and
OPAC is not available for use, internet is a solution.
How?
Using the internet, there are many different search engines you can use, but
some of the most popular include Google, Yahoo!, and Bing.

2
To perform a search, you will
need to navigate to a search engine in
your web browser, for example google,
then type one or more keywords—
also known as search terms—then
press Enter on your keyboard. In this
example, we will search for recipes.

After you run a search, you will

see a list of relevant websites that match your search terms. These are commonly
known as search results. If you see a site that looks interesting, you can click a link
to open it.

If the site does not have

what you need, you can simply
return to the results page to
look for more options.

Most browsers also allow you to perform a web search directly from your
address bar, although some have a separate search bar next to the address bar.
Simply type your search terms and press Enter to run the search.

Search suggestions
If you do not find what you are looking for on the first try, don't worry! Search
engines are good at finding things online, but they are not perfect. You will often need
to try different search terms to find what you are looking for.

3
If you are having trouble thinking of new search terms, you can use search
suggestions instead. These will usually appear as you are typing, and they are a
great way to find new keywords you might not have tried otherwise. To use a search
suggestion, you can click it with your mouse, or select it with the arrow keys on your
keyboard.

To locate Web sources

The web provides varied sources depending on the amount of information that
is available to cite. Check the url, look at the bottom for the copyright or authorship
statement and find out if the company or organization, publication or individual has
Wikipedia page. See the picture below:

4
To find the author or editor of the work or site, look for links to the site's "About
Us," "Contact Us," or mission statement sections. Note the title of an individual Web
page or periodical article in quotation marks, and the title of the Website in italics.

Record the name of the organization publishing the Website. Look for this
information at the bottom of the homepage, locating the person or group who holds
the copyright. Or look for a link on the "About Us" page.

Look for the date of electronic publication or most recent update. If no specific
date appears along with the material you want to cite, look for a copyright date, usually
located near the bottom of the page.
