What significant learning insights did you gain “Learning indeed is a lifelong process.” There’s no
from the course? stopping it especially that we are living in a fast
changing society where what’s best for today may not
be of use for tomorrow. So, we must be very alert in
updating/ upgrading ourselves in order for us not to be
left out, more so for the sake of our learners- it is our
responsibility. We must be adaptable to change and at
all cost think of the welfare of our learners. After all,
it’s their future that we are shaping so we must just
shape it responsibly.
It’s sad to note that through this course I
realize that while I am a teacher that belongs to
generation Y, most of my teaching practices were
traditional ones (Chalk and Talk) and that need to be
upgraded. This challenges me to become a better
version of a teacher that I am equipped with the
competencies of a 21st century teacher.
What challenges or difficulties did you experience First is the internet connection of which is
during the course? very poor in our locality with which I need to go to an
elevated place to catch a better signal not mindful of
the very cold breeze that was kissing my skin during
chat sessions on Saturday nights. Attending class
online is a new thing to me, and it hits me hard during
our first session when I cannot seem to keep pace with
the discussions. I can’t help but cried that time because
while I was so confident in gathering my thoughts
while typing my answer for the first question thrown
by the FLT, as I posted it in the chatroom, I was
shocked as they have gone through few topics
already.it was really fast paced and I can’t seem to
keep up. Good thing I easily adjust on the following
sessions.
My time management skill was also being
challenged. This opportunity came during when loads
of extra-curricular activities took place in school. So I
need to juggle things at a time to make sure nothing is
being compromised. The module will take lots time for
me to read but of great help during forum discussions.
Another since this is distant learning there would be no
classmates to ask for comparisons of work. So I just
have my fingers crossed that my understanding of the
instructions pertinent to the requirements to be
submitted are correct.
What areas related to 21st Century teaching and As to the parameters of the 21 st century
learning do you still need to improve on and why? teaching and learning, I still need to improve on
understanding the new types of learners. This really
matters when creating a student centered environment
and in order to accommodate all learners putting into
consideration their different styles. By this, we can be
assured that no learners may be left behind. Another is
the holistic development of learners, this is a must in
order to prepare the learners face the real world in the
future. So, as a teacher, I need to improve and find
more strategies and techniques where I can develop
learners holistically, I need to improve in integrating
lessons across learning areas so they can develop many
skills at a time.
What can you say about your overall experience It was a worthwhile experience. It is also a
(i.e. comment on chat, forum, course requirements, roller coaster ride: exciting, fun, challenging, and a
FLT competency, and the online modality)? stress free avenue to learn something new and useful.
It is exciting because it is my first time doing it, I don’t
have any idea as to what comes next. It is fun
especially during chat sessions where the exchange of
ideas where free flowing. It is challenging as the forum
discussions would really push me to think off my
limits. I can’t seem to believe that ideas will just come
down crashing my mind- challenge is how to put them
together. With regards to FLT competency, hats off for
being so excellent in his craft, so considerate and very
approachable. He’s very down to earth and that makes
complicated things simple for his learners. He did
reach out to his learners and is indeed very flexible. As
to the modality, it is challenging especially to those
who had their first experience like me. But, the
pressure it gave seem to develop the critical thinking
skills and the sense of adaptability and accountability
for me to become a responsible learner.
To sum it up, this was a great experience
that will give us loads of learning that is meant to be
shared to our students.
What are your other comments / suggestions for As this gives me many “First”
improving the content coverage and future course experiences in this kind of craft. I would love to add
deliveries? more to the number of days of the chat sessions and
forum discussions because it really is worth the time.
