Website Reader Friendliness Checklist
• Does the site convey a clear sense of its intended audience?

• Does it use language in a way familiar to its readers?

• Is it conversational in tone?

Review Wechamo University (WCU) website using the above checklist, write a 9-20 page
investigative report, addressing organization, style & design of the website. You should
critique on the site weaknesses & identify their main strengths.
Your report should include:
An Introduction, which contains a summary of your report. It should outline why you
undertook the analysis, a summary of your rankings & recommendations for further action
A Discussion section, which summarizes your findings for each site. Start each entry with the
site’s URL & overall score. Proceed to go through each part of the site & describe how it is
ranked and select one best designed another national or international website and compare
with the ambo university website.
A Conclusion section, which singles out chief weaknesses & best practices of other sites
which your company should consider

1.Does the site convey a clear sense of its intended audience?

YES. It is clear sense for audience, image resolution is very high
All colours match each other and are comfortable for users
You can form an opinion about the university by looking at the main page only.
For example, when I pass university entrance examination and reach Ambo university, I
say in my opinion this university is very big and older university so, I enjoy it

There are good contrast between background and text e.g. white text on a blue background
makes your content legible and easy to read.

On the other hand, the tabs order and its appearance are beautiful and it can attract the
audience
An additional it is better to use the not only the picture of the university but also the town
ambo and the places that are near to the ambo town, because it used to advertise not only the
university but also the way of life like culture, language, and way of living of the society.
2. Does it use language in a way familiar to its readers?
yes, it uses English language which is an international and well-known language through the
world, so it us go way of choosing and use language.
Therefore, we think that it uses a language which is familiar to the readers, because it has an
English language which is almost known by all the learned people and society.
But as an idea it is better also use other local and national language because this makes the
website more comfortable to the user and other society which has lack of an English
language.
And also, it is an Ethiopian university which is accessed and used by the Ethiopians, so it is
better to use or add other well-known Ethiopian languages like Amharic language and afaan
oromoo languages and also other languages as much as possible.
3. Is it conversational in tone?
not at all but it has a little a conventional tone which feel and like for the user which may
fulfil the goals of good user interface design.
Tone is one of a good websites to attract the user intended conversational is the key. In case
of Ambo University conversational in tone is very nice and more attractive as we compare
Addis Ababa University. For example, well coming tone is easy to understand and text style
nice.
4. Is load time appropriate to content, even on a slow connection?
One of the biggest challenges that designers have to overcome is simply deciding on the
amount of content and information to use. Of course, having a lot of quality information is a
good thing, but it can also get in the way and make it difficult load all contents at a time. In
case of Ambo University there no more content so user can load the all content with in slow
connection and the site timely load as we compare with Addis Ababa
it has a problem of loading quickly. It does not load the pages quickly even in a slow
connection. That is what we see when we investigate the website.

5. Is there a response form for feedback?

yes, it has some form for feedback and response. It is done by using different social media
ways like Facebook, twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
To know how their user feel and to response a question they asked feedback is basic issue. To
collect feedback, the site must be preparing question that clear for the user. For instance, ‘Did
you achieve your goal?’ with a list of answers, ‘Yes’, ‘partly’ or ‘No’. However, Ambo
University almost has no way to accept the user feeling, Addis Ababa University has good
way to receive the user feeling and response the user feedback.
It is a good practice for using these social medias for a feedback and response because these
social medias are the most well-known and almost used by the people which are using a
social media, so it is a good practice and we appreciate it. Finally, we said that, it is better to
keep it up by this content.

6.Does the site have a consistent, clearly recognizable “look & feel”?
yes, it has a consistency, clearly recognizable and provides a look and feel way. Because its
appearance and the way it is design is good.
One of the major goals of website designer’s the consistent of pages. In order to satisfy the
user interest, the webpage must have good colour and interface. So, Ambo university website
has consistent, clearly recognizable so the site not bad in case its consistent.
 6. Does it make effective use of repeating visual themes to unify the site?
yes, it tries to use themes, but it is not enough
Repeat some aspect of the design throughout the entire piece. The repetitive element may be
a bold font, a thick rule (line), a certain bullet, design element, colour, format, spatial
relationships, etc. It can be anything that a reader will visually recognize. Ambo University
very nice in case of visual themes to unify the website. The colour, format and bold font is
great when we compare Addis Ababa University.
It has some themes that attract the user and the slides that the picture moves to slide to slide it
is better tying but as we try to indicate in the above it is not enough…

8. Are links obvious in their intent and destination?

we think all links are not intent and destination because some links are not working and some
are even not loading. Links on the tab like research, office and services are not working and
does not navigating to the target destination. This is a great problem
In addition, the top up arrow which is used to perform the back to top
operation is not working
9. Is there a convenient and easy way to manoeuvre among related pages and different
sections?
yes, because the are many links that make the website easy to use and convenient. There are
many links which allow the user to navigate the page to what he/she want and to related
pages in easy way and manner.
10. Does the site make effective use of links to tie related items
together?
the site uses good links which related to each other. But specially at the bottom there are
much more links which make the website bulky and ugly. So is better to minimize these links
in some method like dropdowns and such way. We think it is better to do like this.
11. Is page length appropriate to site content?

Yes, the page length is appropriate to the site content. As the site contain many links and
pages it uses the page length effectively.
12. Is the site moderate in use of color?

we think it is not moderate to user the colours. Because the colour combinations are not
attractive and there are few numbers of colours that are contained in ye site. So, it is better to
use more beautiful colour coordination and mixes in order to make the site beautiful and
attractive. Colours are mostly blue
13. Does it avoid juxtaposing text and animations?
yes, it tries to avoid juxtaposing text and animations.by this criterion it is good.

Conclusion

Finally, when we compare to Addis Ababa university, the Addis Ababa university is more beautiful in
colour arrangement attractiveness

It provides a beautiful and enjoyable design and interface to the audience and it give feel and like
content.

Each links and tabs are works properly and quickly even there is a slow connection of internet.
