Q1) Explain the concept of worship in Islam.

(10 marks)

Ans : Concept of worship in Islam:

Worship is far greater than what people think worship is. Most of the people in Islam (Muslims)
think that worship is limited to prayer, fasting, zakat, hajj ect. But that’s not the case. This
meaning of worship is just a part of worship in Islam. Worship is doing all the good deeds for the
pleasure of God (Allah). The activities done to please God (Allah) are all worship. These
activities can be anything beliefs, rituals, social work, contribution for welfare of society.

Quran says that Allah has made mankind to worship him. Muslims worship God (Allah) the only
creator and sustainer of the universe. The worship concept in Islam is quiet comprehensive. Like
Salat and fasting everything that is done for the reward, fear of Allah, and for the love of Allah is
part of worship. Muslim not only go to mosques to pray or worship God but also they can
worship or pray while travelling, at home, school, and anywhere they want by good deeds and
action taken to please good.

Worship depends on intensions:

Islam teaches that worship depends on intension. Muslims believe that Allah looks for the
intension behind the actions. Any task performs with the pure intension to please Allah is
worship. At one event a Sahaba RA was making a window while construction of his house.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) came and said that make the window with intension that its for
azan’s voice. Even though the window is for fresh but the intension of making window makes it
as an act of worship. The worship connects to Allah. It makes the bond of person and his creator
strong. Worship helps to get inner peace and tells the purpose of ones life.

All the good deeds are an act of pleasing Allah. Even a reply with smile is also a part of pleasing
God. There are five responsibilities stated in Islam for Muslims to follow. Which are as follows:

 Namaz (Salat)
 Roza (Saum)
 Hajj
 Zakat
 Jihad
Namaz:

In Islam the namaz comes first. The religious duty of every Muslim. This is call form Allah to
his followers to meet him. Namaz is done five times a day. This prayer consist of standing,
bowing and prostrating. Namaz connects to Allah as in daily busy life we forget our duties. Azan
the call for namaz reminds us about our religious duty to worship God. Namaz teaches us the
unity discipline, and humbleness. It is the direct communication with Allah and the person.

Saum:

Saum fasting is the second pilar of Islam. Saum in the Islam performed in the ninth month of
lunar year Ramadan. Muslims refrain themselves from eating, drinking, and sexual interaction
till sunset (magrib). Fasting stop Muslims form many acts like gossip and foul language. Fasting
tells the thirst of poor and creates the sense of sympathy. Fasting flourishes the patience,
thankfulness and discipline.

Zakat:

Zakat in the annual charity in islam. It creates the concept of equality. It is done by giving 2.5
percent of the annual saving to the poor by properly investigating his/her condition.

Hajj:

in islam hajj is the annual meeting at Allah place the holy kabah. Muslims from all over the
world gathered around on place with one uniform and on voice “labaik allahuma labiak”. It
creates the sense of discipline, unity and oneness of Allah.

Jihad:

It also an important religious duty of Muslim to defend Islam. Islam is a peaceful religion but
when it comes to Allah and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) then Islam tells us to fight against the
evil for freedom. Jihad also have some other meanings like jihad bin nafs. It means fight against
bad intension coming to mind.

Q2) What are the areas in which science and faith have differences and they collide? Explain
with examples.

Ans: Science:
Science is the study of facts and figures with scientific method. Anything which cannot be
explained wont come under science. Science requires a systematic methodology and ample
evidence. The science doesnot accepts the angles, ghost as they cant be explained yet.

Islam:

Islam is the name of beliefs and faith. Islam gifted us the book Quran. In Quran there are
multiple sign. As Quran says that there are multiple signs in Quran for the people who are wise.
These signs let one to think about the happening like sunrise and sunset, changing of day and
night.

Difference between Islam and science:

The Islam is set of beliefs while science is set of facts. Where beliefs and faith comes Islam
contradict with science.

Believe in God:

We believe in one God but as no one have seen him science question on God’s existence. God
have given us signs of his existence. Like the happening in the universe it tells us there is
someone behind the scene who is controlling and running the happenings we Muslims believe he
is God who is responsible for all these happenings. On the other hand science says it natural. It is
also confirmed from the Quran which states that there multiple signs in Quran for the person who
is wise.

Believe in third creatures:

We believe in angles and Rooh. The inner self for us as this world is just the exam for muslims
for after life. At that time our soul Rooh will enter our body again for justice of heaven and hell.
Science does not believe on after life it says there is no life after death. Muslims strongly believe
on after life the day of judgement where all the good and bad deeds are judged and accordingly
people will go to hell and heaven. Angles are the one who conveys the message of Allah to
prophets and also perform the different tasks like catching of rooh, blowing of sur at the day
before judgment ect.

Miracles:
In addition the events happen at the time of prophet (SAW) and other nabis the miracles
happened science also question to them. Like jesus was born without a couple and science
believe on reproduction process so they question on that while Muslim strongly believes that
everything is done by God’s will even a leaf cannot jerk without the order of Allah.

The event of Mussa RA he was thrown to fire and he didn’t burned. Hazrat Mussa RA was
thrown to fire by Firon the king at that time because He RA was calling people to join God’s
message. When he was thrown the miracle happened and the fire become cold. Hazrat Mussa RA
didn’t get injured in the incident. As the science says touching fire cause the injuries but it
doesn’t in the case of Hazrat Mussa RA.

The breaking of moon into two pieces. At the time of prophet Muhammad (SAW) the non
muslim says that how we are supposed to believe you. So he (SAW) called all the people at
mount and says that I can break the moon into two pieces to invite them towards Islam.
Practically breaking moon into two pieces is not possible. But the non-believers of that time can
eye witness the event.

The event of miraj the historical and religious event for Muslims. In the event of miraj the time
stops while the prophet visit the 7 skies and meets Allah. Hazrat Jibrael (angle) took prophet
(SAW) to his way to sky on the animal named Buraq (unicorn) the fasted creature. He guided the
prophet’s (SAW) visit to the sky all the way to Allah. The time stops till the visit was done. We
Muslim believe at that day the annual judgement is done. Science does not accept it as the time
don’t stop for anyone.
