1. The environment that does not possess any form of life will lead to ultimate extinction.

Reproduction is one of the most crucial function of living organism due to its delicate yet critical
ability to provide continuous life form in different living organism in the universe. The absence
of Reproduction will cause to devoid of existence of every species due to inability of
discontinuing the process of maintaining the life beings itself.

2. Major Functions of the following organs present in Male Reproductive System:

 Testes – It is responsible for the production of male sex hormone called testosterone.
Seminiferous tubules that secrets sperm cells in a manner call spermatogenesis are also
within the testes.
 Scrotum – It is a loose pouch-like sac behind the penis that acts as the protective layer
of the testes. It is also serves as the climate control system in order to maintain a slightly
cooler body temperature for normal sperm development
 Epididymis – It is a long, coiled tube at the backside of the penis which carries and stores
the sperm cell after being produced by the Testes.
 Vas Deferens – A long, muscular tube that transports matured sperm to the Urethra in
preparation for Ejaculation. The tube travels through the Epididymis into the pelvic
cavity that is behind the bladder.
 Penis – The male organ with sensitive nerve endings for sexual intercourse has three
parts namely the root (attached to the wall of abdomen), the shaft, and the glans (cone-
shaped end of penis). It secrets the semen when the man reaches orgasm.

3. Major Functions of the following organs present in the female reproductive system:
 Ovaries – These are small, oval shaped glands that produces Egg Cells or Oocytes and
Hormones (Estrogen and Progesterone) while located on either side of the Uterus.
 Uterus – It is a hollow, pear-shaped organ that is divided in to two parts: Cervix (Lower
part that opens into the vagina, and Corpus (main body of the Uterus). It serves as the
site of Fetus Development.
 Vulva – It is the protective outer portal of the Uterus with its “double door” namely:
Labia Majora and Labia Minora. It also contains the opening of the Female Urethra and
the vital function of passing urine.
 Fallopian Tubes – Narrow tubes that are attached to the upper part of the uterus and
acts as the pathway for the travelling of ova from the ovaries to the Uterus. As the egg
cells that are fertilized in the fallopian tubes, it moves to the uterus then implants itself
to the uterine lining.
 Vagina – It is also known as the birth canal that joins the cervix to the outside of the
body.
4. Occurrence of Major Events of the Prenatal Development:
 Fertilization – Occurs when the Egg and Sperm cell successfully fused in the Fallopian
tube, it transforms into a newly fertilized cell call zygote and travels to the Uterus.
 Implantation – As the Zygote reached the Uterus, it will be called as Blastocyst when it
burrows itself to the Uterus Lining. The Uterus lining feeds into the blastocyst then
eventually develop into a fetus.
 Embryonic Stage – After the implantation at the end of first week, the embryoblast will
turn into embryo. The embryo will start to develop distinct cell layers, formation of
nervous system, blood cells, organs at the beginning of the second week after
fertilization. At the end of Embryonic stage, it will still undergo development in size and
complexity through mitosis. The process has eight weeks’ duration.
 Fetal Stage – The remainder of prenatal development occurs during this stage and lasts
from week 9 until birth (38 to 40 weeks). The embryo that is then called fetus in about
nine weeks’ old is at the size of a small kidney bean and takes a recognizable form of
human being,
o Reflexes in arms and legs begin to appear and differentiate sex organs in 9 and
12 weeks
o As the fetus is approx. 4.5 inches long, fingers and toes are fully developing and
fingerprints are visible at about 16 weeks.
o The fetus will weigh up to 1.4 pounds when it reaches its 6 th month of
development.
o Hearing, Internal Organs (lungs, heart, stomach, intestine) that are formed and
develop are enough for the fetus to have a chance of survival outside the womb.
5. The Pregnancy test works by detecting a hormone called Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)
using urine. This hormone is only made if the woman is pregnant. The HCG will only be released
when the fertilized egg is burrowed at the lining of the Uterus.
