The HP-Bypass Valve Type ARS is a steam conditioning valve used in high pressure bypass systems for fossil-fired power plants. It combines the functions of pressure reduction and desuperheating through spraywater injection, achieving a short evaporation length. The valve features a wing-type plug for pressure reduction and optimized spraywater nozzle placement for effective mixing and minimal noise. It is designed for frequent start-ups with minimal thermal stress and is available in a range of sizes and materials to suit various steam conditions in modern power plants.

HP Bypass Valves Type ARS
Application
The HP-Bypass Valve Type ARS is a steam conditioning
valve for steam throttling with very high pressure drop combined with in-body desuperheating through spraywater injection. Its prime area of application are high pressure bypass systems for fossil-fired power plants with subcritical as well as supercritical steam conditions. With the range of available body materials, the ARS-valve can be applied for main steam pressures and temperatures of today’s most advanced thermal power plants. The valve is specially designed for the cyclic operation of bypass systems. Equipped with a hydraulic actuator and the necessary safety control devices the valve can be used as combined HP-Bypass and superheater safety valve according to TRD 421. The complete system has a type approval (Bauteilkennzeichen) for this application. Function Features The valve combines the function of pressure reduction n Compact, Robust Design and desuperheating. For pressure reduction a so-called Less number of components wing type plug is used. This design incorporates specially Easy to maintain designed channels that divide the steam flow into discreet paths, resulting in noise level reductions of 10dBA over n Integrated desuperheating conventional plug designs. Water injection in area of highest turbulence The spraywater is injected into a zone of high steam Optimal mixing of steam and water velocity and turbulence. This ensures a fine atomization Very short straight pipe length after the valve combined with a good mixing of the injected water with (approx. 1m) the steam, which results in a very short evaporation length n Designed for frequent start-ups and an even temperature distribution at the valve outlet. The specially designed multi-function contoured cage Optimized body shape for minimal thermal stress breaks the steam jet into multiple small jets, ensuring noise Multi-function contoured cage eliminates thermal attenuation. This cage also prevents water droplets from shocks reaching the pressure boundary walls, thereby eliminating n Pressure range 160 - 250 bar any chance of thermal shocks. The optimized arrangement n Temperature range 500 - 570 °C of the spraywater nozzles, the shape of the cage and the arrangement of the holes are the result of extensive fluid n Tightness ANSI class V dynamic calculations combined with more than 30 years of n Available with safety function according to TRD421 experience with the technology of in-body desuperheating. The valve body with its spherical shapes is designed for cyclic operation and frequent start-ups. Material concentrations and abrupt changes of wall thickness are avoided.
