Lesson Plan Math 12

This document provides a detailed lesson plan for a Grade 12 mathematics class. The objectives are for students to determine if a relation is a function using domain and range, illustrate ordered pairs through tables and diagrams, relate relations and functions to real life, and integrate the concepts across different subjects. The lesson includes competency objectives, reference materials, and detailed learning experiences involving student and teacher interactions. Activities include classifying objects by characteristics to form ordered pairs, analyzing mapping diagrams to identify functions, and interviewing others to gather occupation data and form ordered pairs. Assessment involves determining if given relations are functions and illustrating them with diagrams. The assignment has students gather work information from others and analyze it.

A Detailed Lesson Plan In Grade 12

I. Objectives
Through varied learning activities, the students must have the following with at least 85%
accuracy must have the following:
1. determine if the given relation is a function using domain and range.
2. Illustrate the ordered pairs through tabular method and mapping diagrams
3. relate relations and functions to real-life situation
4. integrate Relations and Functions across Science, Araling
Panlipunan, TLE, ESP and ICT.

II. Subject Matter

A. Competencies: Determines and illustrates Relations and Functions
B. References: Math Learner's Module 8; Next Century Mathematics by

C. Materials: Strips of Paper, chalkboard, cartolina, marker, lapel, Sbooks & activity

III. Learning Experiences

Teacher Learners
A. Preparation
-Good Afternoon, Class! -Good Afternoon,Sir!
-Assigned Prayer Leader, you may now - Leading the prayer
begin.
- Once again, Good afternoon, - We're good! We're fine!
everyone! How's your day today?
-That's good to hear! Well, I would like to (Everyone is happily cheered on their seats
praise everyone specially to the board for receiving the chips since 1 chip = 3 points.
director because the board is clean and )
green as well as to the floor managers
because the room is clean and the chairs
are well-arranged.
Because of that, everyone will receive
this smiley face chip for a job well
done!
-Okay, Group Secretaries, may I know - Each representative dictates the
the status of your attendance? absences by grouping.
- Okay, thank you Secretaries!
- So, today's lesson is quite easy for you to
understand if and only if, you will listen to
the discussion and participate to the -Yes it is, Sir!
activities.
Remember, I still have a lot of chips here so
be active as much as you can. Is it clear? -Family , Sir!
- So class, if you hear the word Relations, -My relationship with my siblings!\
what comes into your mind? -My Forever
-and it is also mean as the
association between two parties such as
friends, but class , how will you relate the
word relation to
Mathematics? Do you think there is a
function between relations? How will you
relate this concept to ordered pairs?
-So, let us find out through this
activity.
-Our first activity will enable you to write - An ordered pair is a representation of a
ordered pairs. Who can still remember the point in the form of (x, y)
ordered pair?
-Very Good! What are the names of two -Domain and Range
ordered pairs? -Abscissa and Ordinates
-The two of them are like husband and
wife, they should never be separated!
(Students are grouping themselves)
-Everybody, group yourselves into 3
members!
-Everybody, please look at the visual
aids. Please Group the following objects in -Glass wine- Kitchen Utensils
such a way that they have common
properties or characteristics. Everybody, you
read the example.
-Then, right after, You will make an
ordered pair out of the activity you made.
For example, (Glass wine, Kitchen Yes, Sir!
Utensils)
-Is that clear?
-So I'll give you 5 minutes to finish the task.
Act 1
(Everybody are cooperatively doing their
task.)

B. Presentation
-3 Objects
-How many objects can be found in each -We classified the objects through pairing
column? according to its characteristics.
- How did you classify the object? -We observed that there are no domains that

repeating domains?
-That's Good! How about the range?

-What have you done are the best

representation of Relations and Functions.

Try to observe to this example.

(mortal & pestle, Kitchen Utensils),

(mortal & pestle, cooking) - The domains are kept on repeating while
the ranges are not.
-What have you observed? -Opposite of our first examples
-No, Sir!
-That's Good! And do you think this relation is -I guess we can only say that a relation is a
a function? function if the domains are not repeating!
-No ordered pairs have the same
-Why do you think so? domains.
-So, when can you say that a relation is a
function?

-Very Good! In other words, the set of

Ordered pairs has different domains. Is that
-Yes, Sir!
clear?

-Well class, this concept may also apply to a (The class becomes livelier after hearing my
relationship. You should only have one hugot lines)
domain in your life. Do not be a two-timer so
that your relation to your pair is a function.
Do you understand?

-Okay, for another examples. I have here a

mapping diagram about the members of the
society. You describe the mapping diagram
below by writing the set of ordered pairs. The
first two coordinates are done for you.
-I made it through writing down first the
domain and range.

-How did you make a set of ordered pairs?

- No domain has repeated in a set of
-Is there any reputation of the domain? How ordered pairs?
about the range? - There are some ranges which are
repeating in a set of ordered pairs?
-Yes Ma’am, because no domain in the set
of ordered pairs is the same.

- Does the set of ordered pairs

represent relation and function?
Why?

C. Practice
- So students, I have another set of activity.
In the same group, you will ask each other
your birth month. Your name will be the (Students are collaboratively doing their
domain and the month will be your range task)
through connecting arrows like this
example. Then, write the set of ordered
pairs below. I’ll give you 5 minutes to finish
your task.
IV. Assessment
Determine whether each relation is a function. Write F if it is a F UNCTION and
NF if it is NOT FUNCTION. Then, make a mapping diagram to represent the following set of ordered pairs.

1. {(Aguinaldo, March), (Quezon, August), (Osmeña, September)}

2. { (Humans, Mammals(, Human, Kingdom Animalia), (Turtles, Reptiles)}
3. {(Printer, Computer Hardware), ( CPU, Computer, Hardware), ( Microsoft, Software)}
4. {(5’7, 60 kg), (6’1, 60 kg), ( 4’9, 45 kg), (5’7, 45 kg)}}
5. {(Pandiwa, Verb), (Pang-uri, Adjective), (Pangngalan, Noun), ( Panghalip, Pronoun), (Pang-
abay, Adverb)}

V. Assignment
Interview your family, relatives, friends and neighbors who are already working. Ask
them their occupation, salary per month & number of hours of work per day. Make a set of
ordered pairs out of the information you gathered. Then, illustrate it through mapping diagram.
Make sure you affix their signature as a proof of evidence. Put this on a short bond paper.
(Minimum of 5 persons)

Illustrative Example:

Name: JUANA D. DELA CRUZ Occupation: Teacher 1

Salary/Month: Ᵽ 20, 179 No. of hrs./day: 8

Ordered Pair: (Ᵽ 20, 179, Teacher)

JUANA D. DELA CRUZ

Teacher 1

Salary per Month

Ᵽ 20, 179 Occupation
Ᵽ 10, 500 Teacher
Utility Man
Ᵽ15, 000 Construction Worker
Ᵽ 8, 500 Vendor
Ᵽ10, 200 Security Guard
Questions:
1. What have you observed to the salary received by the persons with their nature of work?
2. Does the nature of work greatly affect to the monthly salary receive by the person? Why?
3. As a student, what are your step-by-step process or career path for you to receive a good salary?
Illustrate your answer through ladder diagram.
4. Is finishing your studies enough for you to have a good living and to make your life more
convenient and more comfortable? If no, what are the values you should have for you to achieve
your goals in life?
