I. Objectives
The learners shall be able to model situations appropriately and solve problems accurately using conic
sections and systems of nonlinear equations
III. Procedure
A. Review of Previous Topics
What is the meaning of conic section?
B. Motivation
Show them a picture of a cone and have its cross section and determine what kind conic section it is.
C. Preparation
Introduce them about the different conic sections (circle, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola)
E. Discussion
Discuss about the conic sections and all its characteristics using determinants B 2-4AC.
F. Fixation of Skills
Show the different kinds of conic sections and let the students define what kind of conic section it is.
G. Application
Relate problems to actual life situation
H. Generalization
Summarize what you have discussed for the day

B. Motivation
Ask random students to draw a parabola and ask them from what part of conic section did they come
to it

Present the students the standard form of a parabola from the general form of a conic section
D. Presentation - Parabola
Introduce to them the properties of a parabola
How can we determine that it is a parabola according to its equation?

What is the general equation of any conic sections?
Show them the general form of a parabola derived from the general equation of conic sections.

Convert the general equation of parabola to its standard form.
