A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 8 MATHEMATICS

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:

a. Define what is an isosceles triangle

b. Identify and prove theorem involving isosceles triangles
c. Illustrate an isosceles triangle.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topics: Isosceles Triangle Theorem
B. Materials: visual aids, and chalks
C. Reference: Grade 8 module
D. Math Process: Knowledge, Concepts, and Communicating
E. Value Integration: Develop cooperation, collaboration, being active, and
respect individual decisions.

III. PROCEDURES
Teachers Activity Students Activity
A. Preparation
1. Prayer
Good Morning Class
Okay, please remain standing, let’s have a
prayer first. Is anyone who wants to volunteer
to lead prayer?

2. Classroom management
Before we start our class discussion, I have
some classroom guidelines or rules that we
should follow so that our discussion will not
be interrupted okay?
I want everyone to listen attentively and
actively. I want you to focus on our
discussion; don’t talk when I discuss the
lesson unless I call you. Next, If you have any
clarifications or questions related to our
discussion, just don’t hesitate to raise your
hand and ask me. Lastly, enjoy learning in
class. Are we clear?
Yes, Ma’am

B. Review

Did you remember class what we have

discuss the last meeting?
Yes, Ma’am
We discussed about what?
Secondary parts of a triangle
Very good,
So what are the four secondary parts of a
triangle?
Median, Angle bisector, perpendicular
Very good class. bisector, and altitude of a triangle.

What do you call the center of a median?

Centroid Ma’am
Very good
Before we proceed to our discussion let’s
have an activity.

C. Activity
“ Name Me”

Mechanics: The class will be divided into five

groups, and each group has a bond paper. On
their paper, they will write their member
name and group number.

Directions: Choose the best letter on the box

and answer the given number below. So in
the box are all the alphabetical letters, so
they’re going to count the letter according to
what’s given number below and they will find
the exact number and letter.

I S O S C E L E S
9 19 15 19 3 5 12 5
19

T R I A N G L E
20 18 9 1 14 7 12 5

S C A L E N E
19 3 1 12 5 14 5

T R I A N G L E
20 18 9 1 14 7 12 5

D. Analysis Good Ma’am

How’s the activity?

Is it difficult to find the correct letter by Yes, Ma’am, it makes us frustrated to count
looking at the given number? the alphabetical letter.

It’s okay class.

E. Abstraction
Now we will be discussing the isosceles
triangle theorem.

Okay, do you have any idea what is isosceles? No, Ma’am

When we say
isosceles triangle
- It is a triangle with at least two
congruent sides.

X Z

When we talked about the isosceles triangle it

has a part.

First is what we call the Legs (congruent

sides are legs)

Y
Legs

X Z

Base – the third side is the base.

Base

Based angles- the angles opposite the

congruent sides.

Base angles

Vertex Angle- the angle included by the legs.

Vertex angle
Now let’s proceed to the theorem.

Isosceles Triangle Theorem (ITT)

- If two sides of a triangle are
congruent, then the angles opposite
them are also congruent.

Converse of an isosceles triangle theorem

(CITT)
- If two angles of a triangle are
congruent then the sides opposite them
are also congruent.

To deeply understand we have here a table

where you can prove a triangle is an isosceles
triangle.

___ ___
Given: AB ≅ BC . ( ▲ABC is an isosceles
triangle)
B

A C
D

 PROVE <A ≅ <C

STATEMENTS PROOFS
AB ≅ BC GIVEN
Let BD bisect Every angle has
<ABC exactly one bisector
<ABD ≅ <CBD Def. of angle
bisector
BD ≅ BD Reflexive property
▲ABD ≅ ▲CBD SAS Congruence
postulate
<A ≅ <C CPCTC

That’s how you prove an isosceles triangle.

Do you have any questions?
Clarifications?
None so far Ma’am
Next will be the solving of an isosceles
triangle.

We need to determine the measurer of a

vertex angle.

Given: <A= 55 degrees, solve the measure of

the other angles.
B
C
A

Parts Name Degree

Base angles <A, <B 55°
Vertex <C ? (70°)
angles

m<A + m<B+ m<C= 180°

55° + 55°+ m<C= 180°
110°+ m<C= 180°
m<C= 180°- 110°
m<C= 70°

That’s how you find the measure of the vertex

angle.
Do you have any questions?
Clarifications?

F. Application
“Identify Me”

Directions: Identity the parts of the Isosceles

Triangles.

Parts Name
Legs BA, AC
Base BC
Base angles <B, <C
Vertex angle <A

H. Evaluation

Directions: Find and solve the given vertex.

Parts Name Degree

Base angles < B, <C 70
Vertex <A 40 degree
angles
Given: <B= 70 degrees, solve the measure of
the other angles.

m<B + m<C+ m<A= 180°

70° + 70°+ m<A= 180°
140°+ m<A= 180°
m<A= 180°- 140°
m<A= 40°
