1 SM100-A (B) Introduction
1.1 Product Introduction
The SM100-A (B) is HART intelligent converters designed by JIAXING SONGMAO. It is researched and developed by ARM
microprocessor, HART protocol modulation and demodulation ASIC, and experienced with a lot of practical applications. The
design is in accordance with the requirements of industrial products with high reliability and stability. The intelligent converter is
equipped with standard RS232 and RS485 interfaces, which can be transparently transmitted to the intelligent instruments with
HART protocol or converted to MODBUS_RTU Protocol to read data, ensuring the live transmission.
The HART protocol is complied with the standard of Bell202 Frequency Shift Keying (FSK), and modulate digital signals on a
basis of 4~20mA, which leads the HART protocol instruments to bidirectional data communication without interfering the analog
signal of 4-20mA. The intelligent converters of SM100 series are for bidirectional modulation and demodulation with digital
signals and analog signals.
1.2 Product Features

● Equipped with standard RS232 and RS485 communication interfaces, which can be used to configure
parameters, change communication baud rate and parity bit. It don’t influence the communication speed of 1200
on the HART bus, which improves the running speed of the whole system.
● Adopted with Industrial General Module shell to ensure easy installation and debug
● With exclusive configuration software, it can be configured with parameters, and communicate with HART
Protocol intelligent Instrument for data transfer
● Supports the standard MODBUS_RTU protocol
● Supports simultaneous connection with multiple HART protocol intelligent Instruments
● Supports a variety of special HART protocol Intelligent Instruments, and can be customized to read the
instructions from special HART instruments
1.3 Key Parameters

● Input Voltage of power: DC12V～24V, the ripple must not be greater than 200mA, current needs to be 100mA
● Physical Dimensions（L × W × H）: 103mm × 71 mm × 43 mm.
● Operation Ambient Temperature : -20℃～+80℃
● Relative Humidity: 10% ～ 80%

2.2 Product Selection
Model Application
The RS232 interface is suitable for the DATA RTU between collector and the SM100-A converter in
SM100-A close distance. It does not need to adopt the bus way, the DATA RTU (or PLC ) + multiple SM100-A
intelligent converters + one or more HART protocol intelligent instruments
The RS485 interface is suitable for the communication between DATA RTU and the SM100-B converter
SM100-B in long distance. You can adopt the bus mode to organize network, the DATA RTU (or PLC ) + multiple
SM100-B intelligent converters + one or more HART protocol intelligent instrument
The RS232 interface and RS485 interface are separate communication channels. The same HART
converters can be used for data communication with different DATA RTU, two DATA RTU with different
SM100-A（B）
system (or PLC ) + SM100-A（B）intelligent converters + one or more HART protocol intelligent
instrument
+DC24v mainly used for the HART instruments with power supply less than DC 24V and connecting with DC 24V

2.3 Introduction of Interfaces
● GND, POW: power interface terminals, POW connects the power supply with the positive pole while GND connects with the
negative pole.
● GND, R232RX, R232TX: RS232 communication interface terminals.
● BR485D-, BR485D+: RS485 communication interface terminal A.
● AR485D-, AR485D+: RS485 communication interface terminal B.
● Loop1+, Loop1-~Loop4+, Loop4-: four sets of HART communication interface terminals
2.4 LED Indications

● POW Power LED: constant lighting when powering on.
● RS485 Communication LED: blinking when RS485A serial port is in data-transferring.
● RS232 Communication LED: blinking when RS232 serial port is in data-transferring.
● HART Communication LED: blinking when HART converter is in data-transferring with HART instrument

3.2 Differences between Two-Wiring and Four-Wiring HART

Protocol Intelligent Instruments
● Four-Wiring HART Protocol Instrument: its power supply is individual, its power cord is dividing with the 4-20mA input and
output cord.
● Two-Wiring HART Protocol Instrument: its power cord and the 4-20mA input and output cord are two wires
3.3 The Debugging Procedures of the Intelligent Converter

Connecting with Multiple HART Protocol Instruments
● -1 is connecting with one HART Protocol intelligent Instrument, the default value of HART is 0, no need modification.
● -4 is connecting with four HART Protocol intelligent Instruments, the HART address needs to be modified to 1,2,3 ,4, then all
the output currents from the HART sensors are 4mA, and only a 250Ω resistance is needed.
● -8 is connecting with eight HART Protocol intelligent Instruments, the HART address needs to be modified to 1,2,3 ,4,5,6,7,8,
then all the output currents from the HART sensors are 4mA, and only a 250Ω resistance is needed.
● If connected with the USB/RS232 Converter, the RS232/RS485 Converter needs to connect with the DC5V power supply.
● when using Siemens PLC programming cord, USB-PPI (USB-RS485 cord), the 3 pin is D+, the 8 pin is D-.

6 Service and Warranty Information
SM100 Series HART Intelligent Converter Quality Assurance
1. The warranty period for the product is 36 months with normal operation conditions from the date of purchase by
end-customers.
2. The company warrants the Product to be free from defects in workmanship and technology for the Warranty Period.
3. This Free Warranty does not include such as but not limited to:
a. The Product has been tampered with, repaired and/or modified without the consent of the company;
b. Damage caused by external force and other natural disasters.
4. When the warranty service is needed, please contact us with calling the service hotline. We would maintain the warranty
service and deliver the product back as soon as possible.
5. This warranty liability limits to the warranty period for the breakdown maintenance of the product, and do not assume other
responsibilities.
SM100 Series of HART Intelligent Converter Use considerations

1. Please read the instructions carefully before use.
2. Confirm that the power supply meets the requirements of equipment.
3. Confirm if the HART instrumentation equipment distance is greater than 200m, if larger than this range, please use a thicker
cord and shielding cables. When using the shielding cables, please ground one end.
4. Confirm if there is a large perceptual load nearby, this would cause serious signal interference, so please take appropriate
shielding measures.
