Guidelines for integrating ICT:

1. Teachers must learn how to use computers

2. Your teacher education course requires simulation. Which subjects or requirements
of your course are forms of simulations? Is practice teaching a form of simulation or
more of a direct experience?

Simulation supports the explanation of the teacher and enables learners to test their
ideas and experiments. This is where there are groupings, role playing and reporting. It
will help students enhance their skills in critical thinking and self-directed learning and
have a greater understanding of their subject matter. They help students understand a
concept's complexities. As they experience the activity first-hand, rather than hearing
about it or seeing it, students often find them more deeply engaging than other
activities. Practice teaching is more of a direct experience that is defined as working to
gain experience as a student teacher and also to enable the student to recognize his or
her role in the broader career and environment.

3. Give 10 instructional materials and its uses.

1. Books – source of information

2. Computer – use for digital presentation like power point etc.

3. What is the impact of distance learning in the teaching and learning process? Give
evidence to support your ideas.

Distance learning teaches management of resources. It also identifies any learning that
happens without the physical presence of the students in the class. Owing to the closure of
school programs, students who otherwise had busy schedules now have much more time
available to them. Thanks to the power of the Internet, distance learning forces a student to
understand the best ways to learn and apply those ways at the best times. The biggest value of
distance education is its versatility. By choosing the time, location, and medium for their
learning, students can choose when, where, and how they learn. Video conferencing
opportunities exist for those who want immediate, live access to teachers. But a more flexible
schedule may work better for students who may be doing their training around a job or other
commitments. There are opportunities to meet the needs of virtually everyone. And there is a
course structure on almost every topic that a person would like to pursue, thanks to the
abundance of online learning options. Distance learning, however, has become an established
part of the world of education, with trends pointing to ongoing development.

Discussion Points and Exercise Questions

Direction: Read and understand this module. Provide what is being asked. Write your
answer in a long bond paper (Hand written) and attach it to the last page of this module.

TASKS:

1. List down 5 technology tools in collaborative classroom environment and its role in
teaching-learning process.

 Google Apps for Education

Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is a core suite of productivity applications
that Google offers to schools and educational institutions for FREE. All of these
applications exists completely online (or in the cloud), meaning that all creations can be
accessed from any device with an Internet connection.
 Kahoot
Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform used to review students' knowledge, for
formative assessment or as a break from traditional classroom activities. It is a tool that
motivates and activates students' learning because it can test their knowledge, reiterate
important concepts, and help them retain information. It also provides instructors with the
ability to further create class discussion and student-to- student interaction.
 Flip Grid
Flip grid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions.
Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics,"
and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display. It allows
learners of all ages to find their voices, share their voices, and respect the diverse voices
of others.
 MindMeister
MindMeister is an online collaborative, knowledge-based mind mapping tool that
students can use to understand and make connections between concepts, ideas, and
information. Mindmeister has many applications beyond mind mapping, including
creating to-do lists, project planning, designing timelines, and brainstorming.
 Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts is a video messaging tool developed by Google that allows users to
collaborate at a distance, instant message, video chat, and share photos, computer
screens, and files.
2. What is the relevance and appropriateness of technology tools in teaching-learning
process? Give evidence to support your answers.

-Technology also has the ability to improve teaching by implementing a modern method of integ
rated teaching. This model connects teachers to their pupils and
to professional information, tools and systems to help them develop their education and optimiz
e their learning.

-Online learning opportunities and the use of open educational resources and other
technologies can increase educational productivity by accelerating the rate of learning; reducing
costs associated with instructional materials or program delivery; and better utilizing teacher
time.

-Depending on the use and benefits, the research by Lowther et al., (2012) suggests that
education technology has not yet taken its place, in spite of their recommendations. This is
probably the reason for the statute of the social company. Leu et al., (2009) state that children
in poorer areas very rarely use the Internet as a learning tool. Today’s chil-dren use modern
technical equipment from an early age (Gutnik et al., 2011; Rideout 2011) so that their coming
in with new educational technologies at school will not be a problem.

3. As a future educator, how are you going to assess your student’s learning? Give
evidence to support your ideas.

The measurement of student learning through assessment is important because it provides

useful feedback to both instructors and students about the extent to which students are
successfully meeting course learning objectives. As a future educator, assessment is so vital in
their pedagogical design that their approach “encourages teachers and curriculum planners to
first ‘think like an assessor’ before designing specific units and lessons, and thus to consider up
front how they will determine if students have attained the desired understandings.
According to Brookfield, “A critically reflective teacher is much better placed to communicate to
colleagues and students (as well as to herself) the rationale behind her practice. She works
from a position of informed commitment.” (Brookfield, 1995, pg. 17) Student assessment, then,
not only enables teachers to measure the effectiveness of their teaching, but is also useful in
developing the rationale for pedagogical choices in the classroom.

TASKS:
1. What are your thoughts about graded assessments? Are they necessary?

-Learning is a search for knowledge, skills and perspective and we use assessment to gauge
and quantify our learning. That is why graded assessment is a necessary tool for the teaching
and learning process, but it is important to recognize that grades are just the currency of the
substance. The necessity of a graded assessment is undisputable but it does not overrule nor
hinder one’s reason for learning.

2. Compare and contrast the formative and summative assessment using Venn
diagram. Give evidence to support your answers.

3. What is the role of ICT in Assessment in Learning? Give evidence to support your
answers.

-ICT can be used to conduct assessments, score tests, evaluate performance, and
facilitate teachers to determine learning outcomes. In addition, ICT, such as portfolio and
project-based evaluation, can be applied into the completion of student tasks.

-By storing and capturing information about how students gain comprehension of new
materials, the use of ICT can benefit teachers; and by taking over some of the task of reviewing
and giving input to students so that teachers can concentrate on other levels of literacy
assistance.

-ICT gives students opportunities to create digital versions of their portfolio. Students
may also be supported by ICT to complete their projects. It is essential that teachers understand
that the rubric used to evaluate e-portfolios and projects must also evaluate the use of
technology by students.

-Technology may help teachers measure the learning of their students as well as their
classroom performance. The use of ICT in evaluation includes the use of digital devices to
assist in the creation, implementation, processing or reporting of assignments, answers, grades
or feedback for student assessment.
