X-Ray GENERATOR
This procedure is the adjustment and check job within HFG Control Inverter Unit (KM6EEXT005)
and High Voltage Tank Unit (KM6MEEXT005-4) for X-RAY generation.

X-RAY specification of KMC-650 HFG (2.2KW).

Min Max Step Unit
Tube Voltage 40 110 1 KV
Tube Current (Small) 0.5 4 0.1 mA
In Fluoroscopy (8 in Snap) fixed mA
(20 in Boost) fixed mA
Tube Voltage 40 100 KV
Tube Current (Large) 8, 20 8, 20 8, 20mA fixed mA
In Radiography
MAs in Radiography 0.4 100 22 steps mAs

There will be few cases in which the following checking and tuning of HFG unit is needed in the field. If you want to
check the details of HFG, you should uncover the back and left side cover of KMC-650 and then uncover the HFG
Inverter unit in the left side. Appropriate measurement devices, such as oscilloscope, DMM (Digital Multi Meter) etc.
are required to check the signals.

WARNING

- To avoid the electrical shock, you should be very cautious in dealing the high voltage
connectors (Anode, Cathode) on tank and tube. Even after the main power is down,
high voltage charge still remains in tank and tube for about a few minutes.

- High voltage connectors should be always tightly fastened before the main power is
turned on.

X-Ray Beam Adjustment

Move the RAD Mask on the x-ray tube to focus X-Ray to center after x-ray calibration.

 Preparations : Fluorescent Plate, Protector

 Method:
1. Set to Fluoro mode of 60KV, 3mA (or RAD mode, 40KV, 30mAs).
2. Stick the fluorescent plate on the I.I.
3. Make environment dark to watch the fluorescent.
Use the protector or black curtain. - Dark room is also useful.
4. Move RAD Mask so that the circle A on the fluorescent plate is
placed to center of X-Ray Beam.

X-RAY IMAGE INTENSIFIER 2003-11-27 Page 1
SUMMARY
This specification contains:
-Introduction, particular features, regulatory requirements page 1
-Electro-optical characteristics pages 2, 3 and 4
-Appendix:
• outline drawing : 8 324 699 E
• wiring and connection : 8 324 663 E

INTRODUCTION
TH 9428 HP2 H211 VR13 is a triple field X-Ray Image Intensifier for medical applications
with a nominal entrance field size of 230 mm and an output image diameter of 20 mm.
Its main components are:
-X-Ray Image Intensifier tube
-mu metal magnetic shield
-lead radiation shield
-painted housing: Thales color reference: T23
-power supply: HV type TH 7195
Technical Specification ref. TS 4989-161 and
User’s Manual TIV/1M.1166/96

PARTICULAR FEATURES
Environmental data
With the maximum allowed static load on the output flange (see outline drawing) the mechanical
shocks should not exceed 1 g (6 ms duration).
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
DHHS 21 CFR 1020-30 IEC 60601-1; IEC 60601-1-2 UL 2601 CSA 22-2 n° 60601-1
Marking: CE, UL

CHARACTERISTICS TH 9428 HP2 H211 VR13
X RAY IMAGE INTENSIFIER 2003-11-27 Page 3
Average background luminance
The average background luminance shall be less than 0.02 cd/m² in all modes.
Just after switching on, or after switching modes, the XRII may exhibit some local luminance
fluctuations. These momentary fluctuations should not exceed 0.1 cd/m² and normally disappear after a
few minutes.
Image shift
The center of the entrance field in the magnifying modes should not shift more than 5 mm (typically 2
mm) with respect to the center of the entrance field in the normal mode of operation.
Output screen spectral response
The output screen contains a P20 type phosphor with a peak wavelength between 520 and 540 nm and a
full width at half maximum of less than 100 nm.
Optical
The thickness of the output window is 3.6 ± 0.2 mm.
The index of refraction of the output window is 1.50 ± 0.02 at 587 nm
The distance of the image plane to the pilot plane will be everywhere within ± 30 µm from the value at
the
center of the image.
Rise and decay time
At an exposure rate of 5 mR/s in the normal mode the luminance of the output screen will be more than
50 % and more than 80 % of its final value respectively 1 ms and 10 ms after starting the exposure. After
a continuous exposure rate of 5 mR/s in the normal mode, the luminance of the output screen will be less
than 30 % and less than 10 % of its initial value respectively 1 ms and 10 ms after stopping the exposure.
Minimum pulse width (valid when used with THALES power supplies only) The minimum pulse width
per DSA pulse is typically 20 ms. The minimum pulse width per cine pulse is typically 2 ms.
Blanking mode
The output luminance of the image intensifier can be blanked to a level less than 5 % (typically 1 %)
with respect to the unblanked mode in all fields, by applying a blanking signal to the power supply
unit. The blanking time constant is less than 1 ms.

1.2.1 General description

The CCD sensor is a solid-state imaging device that produces a black and white image. Light
entering wells in the sensor are converted to electrons, which are read out from the sensor,
amplified and converted to a digital video signal. The digital video signal is transmitted camera link
cable cable to the image processing(pc) system.

1.2.2 Changing the camera

1.2.2.1 Removing the camera

Assembly and disassembly of the camera has to be done only at

power down.

Remove cover of the intensifier housing.

In order to remove the camera,

The connectors signal & power & camera link cable have to be separted.
Then the 3 screws and the plate have to be removed.

1.2.3 Install the CCD camera

Mounting of the CCD camera

The camera is put onto the output window and is fixed by the mounting ring using 3 screws.

Please check optical focus afterwards.

If the camera has to be changed, it has to be mounted and centered to the ring that has been
assembled to the unit. After installing, the optical focus has to be set.

Assembly and disassembly of the camera has to be done only at

power down.

1.2.4 Adjustment of the optical focus

• Switch off the unit.
• To focus the camera lens, the I.I cover has to be removed.
• For that, loosen the screws at the camera housing.
• Switch on.
• Center a line pair phantom to the input window.
The line pairs should be 45° to the monitor line structure and 90° to the scattered radiation grid
• Loosen the locking screw. Set to magnifier 2 format and adjust to maximum resolution.
And then magnifier 1,N focus adjustment.
• Switch to full field size and check edge focus. Tighten locking screw hand screwed.
• Assemble I.I cover

Assembly and disassembly of the camera has to be done only at

power down.
