CONGRUENT ANGLES

Objective: Identify congruent angles.

Review

Look at the illustration below. Name at least 5 right angles, 5 acute angles
and 5 obtuse angles.

H G F E

If you are able to give the names of the different angles you may now
continue with this lesson. If not, review your lesson with the different kinds of
angles.

In this lesson, you are going to learn how to identify congruent angles.
Make sure that you pay attention with the illustrations and the explanations.
Do your best!

Study and Learn

A.

B C Y Z

Look at angle ABC and angle XYZ. Measure their angles using a
protractor. Do they have the same measure? How many degrees does each
angle have? If their measures are both 90°, they are congruent. All right
angles are congruent since they all measure 90°. We write it this way:
∠ABC ≅ ∠XYZ. We read it, ∠ABC is congruent to angle ∠XYZ.

B. Try these two angles.

X P

O Z M L

Measure each angle by a protractor. Are the measure of ∠XOZ and

∠PLM equal? If the measure of two angles is equal, the two angles are
congruent. In the above example, we say ∠XOZ is congruent to ∠PLM. We
write it this way ∠XOZ ≅ ∠PLM.

Here are different angles. Measure each angle to be able to identify which
angles are congruent.

Two angles are said to be congruent if their

measures are the same.

On Your Own

Check your answer with the answer key. If you get….

5-6 - Excellent! You may now proceed to the next lesson.

3-4 - You need to review the processes you missed.

0-2 - You need to repeat the whole process.
