Waves and sound
This is your first assessment for feedback and a grade. This assessment is worth 17%
of your course grade.

Download the Assessment for gradingand solve the questions.

Rubric
The teacher will assess your work using the following rubric. Before submitting your

Part 2: Assessment for Feedback – Lab Report:

Speed of Sound
Task: Lab report
A lab report is an important part of physics research. You will learn how to write a
formal lab report in this course, and prepare one for the culminating lab task. In each
unit assessment, you will reflect on a lab that you completed in the unit, and write a
portion of the lab report based on the lab. In this assessment, you will reflect on the
Speed of sound in air using a closed air column lab found in 1.5 Resonance, and
prepare the components of a formal lab report:

purpose
hypothesis
materials
method
results
analysis
conclusion

You will receive feedback on your work based on the Speed of Sound Lab Rubric.

If you’d like to review the components of a lab report, use the lab report builder
interactive which describes each part of a lab report and provides a sample based on a
lab testing the conductivity of different metals.

Please refer back to Learning activity 1.5 for more instructions on what is expected of
the lab.
