Memoir
_______________________________

My family planned a memorable tenth birthday party for me at home, but what
happened on that day was the craziest thing that could happen to someone on his
tenth birthday. After the bell school rang at the end of the day, I rushed home from
school through almost a foot of squishy snow. At the corner of Oak Street, I
skidded on a patch of ice and crashed into a snow bank. My mittens were soaked
and my boots were leaky. My fingers and toes grew numb with the biting cold, and
I staggered home pushing myself with every step I took. I was tired and
despondent; “This day is supposed to be perfect!” I thought to myself. I made it
home at last planning to take a shower and go directly to my room. I streaked up
the steep front steps, unlocked the front door, and burst into the living room. Then,
everyone screamed: “Happy birthday”. What a great birthday surprise Mom and
aunt Suzy had planned for me! We had a lot of fun. My friends came, and I
received many gifts. My 10th birthday party was unforgettable because everything
was perfect although I had to struggle to get home. Since that day, I have learnt
tobe grateful and appreciative because I have wonderful and loving family and
friends who are there to change gloomy days into cheerful ones.

Descriptive

A beach in Hawaii is like a paradise. The beach there is a delightful

collage of sights, sounds and smells. To start with, the beach smells fresh like a
new ocean freshener. The sand is so hot that when you walk on it after a swim
in the sea, you feel like you are walking on a burning grill. Grouped along this
beach of sand are hundreds of birds arranged in great patches of gray and black.
Perfectly still and facing into the wind, the birds remain soundless unless
something (a wandering dog or a lonely jogger) disturbs them. Then the beating
of wings and their startled cries fill the air until they settle in another spot. Not
far from the shore, you can see the palm trees. They sway in the air from the
strong wind. In a distance, there is a beautiful house by the water, so you can
see the beautiful ocean every day. You can see people laughing and playing on
the burning sand, and others relaxing and sunbathing on the beach. From a far
distance, the ocean is navy-blue and seems endless. At nights, you can hear the
waves of the ocean and feel the light wind which comes from the huge palm
trees. To sum up, this beach is an amazing place for a perfect holiday.

Fictional Narrative
_______________________
On a humid day in July, when the sign said that it was 45 degrees outside, Luke's
mom drove him to Smithfield Theater. He had an important job to do. The job was
more of a personal goal. It was to make people laugh. The catch was that if he was to
stand up in front of a sea of people and tell a couple of jokes, then he would get to see
the movie "Mission Impossible 5". When he got to the theater, he was sweating like a
pig. The librarian that signed him up said, “Are we ready?" He answered feebly, "
Yes." When he got inside the theater, a guy was already telling some lame jokes. Then,
when everybody was seated, Luke's name was called. As he reached the first step to the
stage, he had about a hundred butterflies in his stomach. By the third step, they
multiplied. But then, very abruptly, when he reached the microphone, all of the
butterflies disappeared. When he was done telling the jokes, he didn't turn red or
anything; he just smiled. At the end, he noticed the size of the audience, and
unexpectedly, he knew what he was going to be when he grew up; he knew why God
put him on this green Earth. I t was not only to get that difficult job done, but because
he was going to become a ... comedian.
