MIDTERM EXAM QUESTIONS

1. In this time pandemic, how can organizations motivate employees to promote

safety and health in the workplace?

In this time of pandemic, organizations in all other fields have been currently
immobilized due to the posted restrictions and limitations enforced by the national
government. Employees have showed much reluctance and doubt in performing
their duties to the fear that they might catch the virus. Hence, several work
arrangements are now on trend to combat this dreadful situation. Some
organizations have made use of alternative work arrangements, conducted virtual
meet-ups to limit F2F interaction, and implemented strict and mandatory health
protocols along with the provisions of just compensation. All these ways and all
other initiatives have consistently motivated the employees in organization to still
feel the confidence in performing their roles lessening the fear and gearing towards
productivity.

2. HR leaders should always adopt a strategic management focus. As a people

centered function. HR touches every part of the employee lifecycle. Describe the
steps that HR leaders can take to ensure that they are being strategic in
recruitment, selection, and retention of employees. How would you know that had
been successful in each of these areas?

Companies are more likely to be successful when all teams are working
towards the same objectives. Hence, strategic HR carries out analysis of employees
and determines the actions required to increase their value to the company. From
recruitment down to the retention of the employees, all have been filtered out to
strategically select the best for the development of an organization.
As way to achieve such a goal, the start of the recruitment process needs to
focus on attracting employees who are the right fit for the job. In other words, HR
make sure that applications, interviews, and assessments give candidates an
opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills, explaining the relevance of each
step in the hiring process to the job they are applying for, and, of course, avoiding
bias and adverse impact of processes. From this selection of qualified employees, the
organization will now have the put into place programs that helps train, and retain
their employees.
Overall, HR must develop systems that “walk their talk” that people is their
most valuable resource. Hence, the need to ensure that the organization has the
right talent, managerial mobility, and cultural mix to manage effectively all of its

3. School XYZ is a private Catholic elementary school. It employs 38 people. Ms. M is

a sixth-grade teacher at the school. She is unmarried. When she announces to her
supervisor that she is pregnant, she is fired the next day. Ms. M files a claim of sex
and pregnancy discrimination with the Civil Service Commissions. What is likely the
result and why?

The situation cited has technically expresses the rules/provisions that are
under the jurisdiction of the Civil Service Commission. It further entails that a private
entity may have/has a direct authority over their employees and that any violation
committed will be subject for their judgement. In line with this, the situation clearly
laid out the power of the private Catholic School to fire Ms. M due to the violation
committed. Hence, the filing of Ms. M over her sex and pregnancy claim might or will
not be granted since the act committed is subject for an “immoral act” to the school
concerned of which she is proven true and guilty of. The decision of the school to fire
Ms. M will prevail and the school might pose a case to the teacher depending on
their discretion. Overall, Civil Service Commission cannot extend its service on the
situation stipulated above.

immediate response, demographics, etc.) are affecting how we hire, who we hire,
and where we hire. Define (and be specific) on these trends impacting
management and discuss their impact on employees and school leaders. What can
HR do to respond proactively to the changes within an organization to be ready to
address these external trends?

The trends both internal or external has become an influential consideration

organizations’ hiring standards and process. Included on this trend is technology
literacy where employees must now possess to meet the 21 st century standards of
work where majority is dependent on the use computer software’s due to its speedy

immediate response where employees’ skills are parallel to the needs of an
organization to better the address the gap of the work and the needs of the
community in general. These trends along with the others impact in a wat that
employees must learn to fully adapt and be fully equipped with the right and
relevant skills to fully meet the demands and pace of change. As such school leaders

are retiring over the next decade or so to the millennial, who bring different
talents and expectations. Describe how an organization can build a collaborative
knowledge sharing that supports both groups of employees.

The school system is composed of different people that are of different of

aptitude and attitude. In terms of uniting these differences, collaboration among
each other is the most effective means to bring up positive change. A way to portray
this aspect is the creation of LAC sessions, technical assistance, and coaching to
those teachers or colleague who needs assistance may it be technical, ICT related,
and or skills related. This bunch of beneficial learning mostly come from the experts
of this present era, wherein they shared much of the concepts that their co-teacher
must acquire in the present school system.
This transfer of skills and learning among teachers foster collaboration
