Order and Labor: The Lived Experiences of Online Food Delivery Riders Amidst The Pandemic
April 2021
METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This part discusses the research design used in the research.
The research is qualitative in nature and phenomenological design was used. In
phenomenological design, it delves into the experiences of the research participants as
expressed in their lives and told stories at starting points. It is the most appropriate design as
this approach intends to understand the lived experiences of online food delivery riders during
this pandemic.
Sampling Technique
This part presents the number of participants in the study.
In this study, the researcher will use snowball sampling to obtain the sample. The
participants of the study are the selected online food delivery riders of different food delivery
services. According to Jacobs (2013), snowball sampling is a technique in which existing
participants attract new potential participants who share similar characteristics. It is the most
practical to use because finding and conducting a survey is difficult due to the circumstances,
we are all experiencing.
Research Instrument
This section presents the tools to be used during the research process.
The interview is what the researchers selected to gather information from the food
delivery riders, which will suffice as their research tool. Thus, the Informed Consent Form (ICF)
will be collected from the respondents. All details will be kept confidential and to inform the
participants’ adequate information about the study. For the safety of the researcher and
respondents, the interview will be held through a phone call. While conducting the interview,
researchers used the Filipino language (Tagalog) to have a comfortable conversation with the
participants. The researchers will include video recording during the interview, and it will serve
as a shred of evidence in providing the information and data to be gathered.
