ACTION-REFLECTION-ACTION-SESSION (ARAS)

Guide Questions:
1. At the first level, DESCRIBE what you have actually seen and done during your experience.
Look back at the experience. Provide facts.
2. At the second level, it requires that you REFLECT upon your reactions to what you have
seen and done. Interpret the experience. Analyze the outcomes.
What connections do you see between this experience and the concepts/ideas/theories that you
have learned in your nursing education and your Lasallian values as a whole?
3. The third level is to APPLY a context and set future goals. What does this activity/situation
mean in the broader context?

A community is where people from different levels are gathered in one place, each one
of them have stories of their own that makes them unique. Witnessing this as we arrive from our
first day, makes me embrace being a nurse more. Upon arrival, I noticed the close-knit
relationship the people in the community have. Our clinical instructor assigned us to our
designated families. When I met the family, they’re simple, nice and they humbly guide and
welcome me to their home. The family is composed of a mother, father, elder daughter and
younger son. In entering their home, I noticed that their house is made of concrete and looking
at their kitchen, I also notice that they don’t have a refrigerator. After assessing their house, I
talked to the mother, mona carbonel. I told her name and my objectives for this day. When she
acknowledges my presence, I prepared and perform my bag technique to her and to the other
members of the house. As soon as I finished performing, they acknowledged their results. I
talked to my client a little bit to build more rapport but then I noticed the surroundings so I
introduced Alay linis to them. I explained what is alay linis and what is its purpose. After that,
teach the client how to maintain cleanliness and what product is proper to use. While teaching
her my client grab a broom and perform the activities with my assistance. The following day, I
ask my client to participate in making their worksheet and teach the husband about self-
medication the next day. Going home and thinking that they anticipate me next semester felt
heartwarming. It was priceless when all throughout the experience I could provide what they
need to know about their health and their body. I can also see that they learned something from
me for example in the alay linis activity. Every time I came back the following day after I taught
them about the alay linis, they start practicing it not just in the day of the activity but also in the
days after. Aside from that the client always anticipate my return and they want me to check
their vital signs every time I went to their home. Sharing your knowledge and skills to someone
can aid or help them in any possible ways in life especially in their health. Those teachings can
also change the future of their health because they know what are the causes, signs, symptoms
and how to aid it. They will start looking for healthy ways for a healthy living and start thinking
for their own good. This activity provides the 3 common concepts in nursing theory which is
human, health and environment. Human as the recipient of care, it is shown in the community
as the families involve as our recipient. Next is the health, the goal of the nursing. In the
community, our goal is to help a community protect and preserve the health of its members,
while the secondary goal is to promote self-care among individuals and families. Lastly the
environment or the place where our nursing care takes place in the forms of the community
itself when we conduct our culminating activity which is to teach the children and the house,
where we teach the families such as alay linis, handwashing and etc.
