ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT ON ORIENTATION OF

PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND STUDENTS ON THE
OPENING OF CLASSES FOR THE SY 2021-2022
I. INTRODUCTION:

A student’s academic and all-round development is not just up to the school. The
parents need to be involved at every step to keep track of the progress their ward is making over
the academic year. While it may not be possible for them to do so every day, considering they
would be busy with their own professional lives, the school offers parent orientation programs to
discuss various aspects of the student’s schooling.
This parent orientation program is usually held on the first day of school to bring the
parents up the idea of the various teaching methodologies being employed at the school. By
doing so, the parents would be able to implement the learning process at home, ensuring the
student doesn’t lose continuity in learning. They can also suggest other, more creative ways to
teach, which could aid in the better learning of the students.

II. RATIONALE:

The Department of Education (DepEd) is bracing for an “extraordinarily challenging

school year” due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
As we face unprecedented time, DepEd still firmed that education must continue.
In this connection, and due to the prevailing pandemic situation, the Sta. Rosa National
High School with its Faculty and Staff spearheaded by its School Head, Sir Job D. Lucero work
collaboratively through online orientation to raise awareness among its learners and their
families for the preparedness of this school year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this school year 2021-2022 will use a combination of
methods, from online classes and printed learning modules to use of TV and radio. Teachers
were already prepared for the opening of the school year 2021 to 2022 under the "new normal"
setup as they were trained to handle different modalities.

III. OBJECTIVES:

a. To create a welcoming environment for students and parents and encourage in

them a positive attitude towards JHS and SHS.
b. Build a sense of community among the students, faculty, and staff by providing
opportunities for introduction, communication, and interaction.
c. To provide information on the rules, regulations, programs, facilities, and services
of the school and how these can support their academic and personal goals.
d. To facilitate transition from Face to Face to Blended learning by letting students
and parents know what to expect in the coming school year (SY).

IV. NARRATIVE REPORT:

It was September 13, 2021, when every public teacher in the country was presumably busy
as that day marked the opening of classes of all schools under the public education system of the
Philippines.

Sta. Rosa National High School was nevertheless no exemption to that as it joined the
whole country in the opening of classes for the above-mentioned school year. With that, we view
our opening of classes with an orientation of parents/guardians and students virtually. The day
started off with a Flag ceremony and a prayer at exactly 9 in the morning. Sir Job D. Lucero, our
School Head was there to give his opening remarks. He also emphasized the importance of
education, its relevance or relation in one’s life.

Child development is another area the parent orientation program focuses on. The
teachers and the parents can discuss the progress being made by their students and discuss
problem areas to find a solution. By involving the parents in the process, the school ensures the
student will be given due attention to areas of improvement at home and ensure they can improve
their performance. The parents can also bring up any problem areas they see with their child or
with the teaching process so that solutions can be discussed and implemented together.

The way the student is assessed is also discussed in these sessions. There are various
assessment methods used and the parents are given a detailed understanding of how the grading
works and what the child can do to improve their performance. By doing so, parents can
understand the student’s report card a lot better and will be able to inherently figure out where he
or she is lacking in. Understanding the assessment method is an important part of the process for
the parents.

Apart from the above items on the agenda, the program would be open for participation
by the parents to bring up any other problems or topics for discussion in the forum. This way, all
the parents of the respective class students can be involved, and an acceptable solution can be
reached by consensus. The parents are encouraged to interact with other parents as well as the
teachers during the program, as only then can they bring out their issues that need to be
discussed.

While every child has their own strengths and weaknesses, these parent orientation
programs help in telling the parents what they can do at home to address those weaknesses.
