Inauguration of SRB Substation and LP/HP Compressor System by MD, CPCL

at BS-VI Auto Fuels Project (OBE), CPCL Manali Refinery, Chennai

BS-VI SRB Substation and LP/HP Compressor system were inaugurated by Shri Rajeev
Ailawadi, then MD (I/C), CPCL on 23rd August, 2021. Shri C. Duraiyarasan, RCM, EIL
extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries. MD (I/C), CPCL appreciated EIL team for the
untiring efforts put up by all concerned stakeholders for completion of BS-VI SRB Substation
building, 6.6kV HT switchboard charging and HP/LP Compressors system commissioning,
overcoming all obstacles in a challenging pandemic situation.

One of the major highlights was the execution of 32 km HT Power cabling work from COGEN
Substation of Refinery-III to SRB Substation in Refinery-I & II with a route distance of 2.1 km
comprising of existing/ new cable trenches, existing new pipe racks, road crossing - 4 nos
and 1 no railway crossing under difficult circumstances with work permit restrictions.

LP/HP COMPRESSOR:

LP Compressor with Drier (1 Active compressor+ 1 Standby compressor):

The compressor has been manufactured by M/s Ingersoll Rand (India) Ltd. and this
compressor will cater to the requirements of Plant air & Instrument air for the following units
and offsite areas of BS-VI Auto Fuels Project.

i. Sulphur Recovery Block


ii. FCC-GDS Unit
iii. New CRWS Package
iv. O&MS area

The salient features of the Compressor are as follows:

i. Compressor rate capacity : 3200 Nm3/hr


ii. Discharge pressure : 7.5 kg/cm2
iii. Dew point of the compressor outlet : (-) 40 deg.Celsius dew point

HP Compressor:

The compressor has been manufactured by M/s Kirloskar Pneumatic Ltd (Pune) and it will
cater to requirements of Instrument air for following units and offsite areas of BS-VI Auto
Fuels Project.

i. Sulphur Recovery Block


ii. SRB Control Room building
iii. Demountable flare
iv. New CRWS package
v. FCC GDS Unit
vi. SRR Building

Mechanical test run operation was done and the compressor was operated for 4 hours at
rated speed consisting of 2 hours of progressive loading and a minimum of 2 continuous
hours at the rated discharge pressure level and full load. All the parameters of compressor
were found satisfactory.

The salient features of the compressor are as follows:

i. Compressor rate capacity - 250 NM3/HR


ii. Suction pressure - 5-6.5 KG/CM2 G
iii. Discharge pressure - 31.5 KG/CM2 G
iv. The compressor will operate on instrument air of (-) 40 deg. Celsius dew point
