I. Objectives
At the end of this discussion, Grade 8 Junior High School Students should be able to:
b. Explain the way these key values and themes shape culture and society and influence them.
d. Perform and express the significance of the songs in Mulan based on their own
interpretation.
II. Content
A. Topic: Mulan

- Worksheets - “Mulan”
• Then, set the materials needed. Ask somebody in the class for help if necessary.
• To hook the attention of the learners, let them have an energizer first. It will be called
“Paint me a Movie”. The mechanics is very simple. The learners will act shortly (approximately
5-7 seconds). The theme would be Disney stories/scenarios that you will be given to them. As
soon as the three groups performed, you will judge who made it well. This game will test them
on how they are aware to certain stories. This will be done within 5-6 minutes.
➢ First scene- The wicked queen saying “mirror mirror” on the wall from the story Cinderella.
➢ Second Scene- When Wicked Witch ask Snow White to eat the apple.
➢ Fifth Scene- When Mulan grabbed the very last canon and use Mushu’s Flame to cause
a massive avalanche. The highest score wins and if there will be a tie breaker. Let them
perform the scene when Ariel gets human feet in exchange for her golden voice.
The team who won will get an additional points for the assessment.
• After the game, let them go back to their seats. Ask them if they enjoyed the game and
who is/are the best actor/actress in the class.
• For the lesson proper:
• Then, let them read first the story altogether through power point presentation that you
prepared.
• After reading, ask them some questions for remembering and processing.
➢ Describe Mulan. What do you like about her and how can you relate it from yourself?
• To develop the Critical Thinking Stage of the Learners. You may flash some pictures in the
screen and ask the learners if what did they observe or what are the ideas that they want to
share in the class.

Listen to the explanation of your learners. Focus on the points that they tell to the class. This is
also a way to know where you can help them.
➢ Mulan’s acceptance of her identity is the core of the story. Why it is there is a need to
embrace your flaws? To embrace yourself?
➢ In the story, Mulan take a risk and sacrificed herself instead of her father to join to an
imperial army. In your life, what have you have sacrificed so far?
➢ What is the best thing that you have done in your life that you are really proud of?
C. Grammar and Oral Language Development (GOLD)
➢ Assign the class to make a poem that will focus on their selves. They will present here what
are the things that they like about themselves and what are the things that they are
comfortable to share in the class. This will be performed in the next meeting.
IV. Assessment/Evaluation
After the discussion and activities, students will have to write a short Literary Analysis Paper in
a form of an essay where they can give their opinions on the film and the elements discussed at
the end. They can choose whatever element made the greatest impression on them and they
can point out which character did they liked best or least.
Students also have to support their arguments on the paper. This Assessment/Evaluation will be
worth 30 points.
V. Assignment/Agreement
a. Complete the plot structure diagram bellow, fill it up with the needed information. This
assignment will be worth 50 points.
Make a graphic organizer out of these.
b. In Mulan's community, how are women expected to behave? List the skills and characteristics
of an ideal woman in ancient China according to the movie.
c. In Mulan's community, how are men expected to behave? List the skills and characteristics
according to the movie.
d. Are these expectations similar for women and men in your community today? What are the
similarities and difference of both?
