The Ashta Anga Yoga

1) Yama (Don’t)
2) Niyama ( Do’s)
3) Asana ( Posture)
4) Pranayama ( Breathing control)
5) Pratyahara ( Control over senses)
6) Dharana ( Super Concentration)
7) Dhyana ( Meditation)
8) Samadhi (Super Consciousness)

• First five limbs called “External Yoga” because these limbs help to control
the mind indirectly (Indirect control over mind)

• Last three limbs called “Internal Yoga” because these limbs help to
control the mind directly (Direct control over mind)

Yama (Don’t)

The five Yamas, self-regulating behaviors involving our interactions


with other people and the world at large, include:

1. Ahimsa: nonviolence
2. Satya: truthfulness
3. Asteya: non-stealing
4. Brahmacharya: non-excess (often interpreted as celibacy)
5. Aparigraha: non-possessiveness, non-greed.

Ahimsa: nonviolence
• Mahatma Gandhi

• External
• Minimising violence
• Buddha: Soldier joining to become monk..

• Internal
• E.g Indian bridal & breast cancer
• Weaker one get exploited

• Feel hate
• You are harming cells in exciting emotions - violence towards yourself
• (e.g Cause of Mahabharata War)

• Satya should not be rigid

Asteya: non-stealing

Physical
• Something is not yours claiming yours
• Things, Sample, IP, Ideas etc.

Why you should not do that


• Acting like TWO people, teller and listener (Friction in mind)

Don’t Waste Energy justifying small things

Inside splitting is always happening either you face it or not

Brahmcharya: non-excess

• Brahmacharya means moving towards brahma


• Celibacy, Continence or sexual activity (part of brahma charya)

• Keep Walking (e.g money pole)


• Bhramchara Ashram (e.g Traffic light)

Aparigraha: non-possessiveness

Non accumulation beyond your needs and needs should reduce


• Need and wants
• Things, files, thoughts, emotions etc.

• There is no guidelines (E.g USA )


• Mind / YOU only increasing bar (E.g phone screen)

• Mastering is Flexibility (e.g Travelling, On/Off)

Niyama (Dos)

The five Niyamas, Personal Practices that relate to our inner world

1. Saucha: Purity, Cleanliness


2. Santosha: Contentment
3. Tapas: Self-discipline, Training your senses, Endurance
4. Svadhyaya: Self-Study, Inner Exploration
5. Ishvara Pranidhana: Surrender (to God)

Saucha: Purity
Cleanliness
Physical, Vital, Mental, Intellectual

Don’t pick one part and follow (Krishna)

We Subjecting in Seeing, Hearing, Acting

Santosha: Contentment
• Content vs progresses vs.greed
• Final goal of all progress don’t depend (Walkman & happiness.)

• Don’t stop outside...in fact more content you are better


• Karma Yoga (content what you have, not try to gain anything, only try to
express your happiness)

• Do you want to be a Yogi or Bhogi? (Eat, Marry & Sex)


• Necessary Vs. Sufficient

• We like to Increase our boundary = Desire is Infinity

Contradicting you want to be evolutionary


• Preservative vs expansiveness (First time / last 5 years nothing happens)
• animal vs human stomach

Tapas: Self-discipline, Endurance


Kriya Yoga: (Tapas, Swadhyaya & Ishwara Paridhan)

• More than Tapasya

• To be endurance frictions drop off small things to achieve higher goals


• (E.g Property, Phycology, Idea, Emotions, Fasting)

Svadhyaya: Self-Study

• You can’t tell as like book…if we discuss is good it won’t work in


spirituality.

• Cant KNOW by lecture


• Read, listen and churning inside (my own example)

• Swadhyaya is coming from your OWN research, analysis

• Asking question is fashion - to make your presence

• Develop Patient
